How Do You Stop A Program Running Under Windows Xp?

2012-04-23 20:05:54

I use the Avira program to protect my computer but it's a devil for pop-up adverts.

To stop this I have deleted the program that produces them,  avnotify.exe,  but when Avira downloads its next update avnotify is replaced and the pop-up adverts start again.

I read that if you use Windows policy and add avnotify.exe to the disallowed list it will no longer run. This isn't true.  Upon reading the small print you find that the 'do not allow this program to run' policy stops a user from starting a program , it does not stop an existing program calling another program.

So, has anybody any idea how to stop a program from being started?

I use Windows XP.

And please, don't tell me to use another anti-virus, I'm happy with Avira apart from this.
Ta very much.

Uk Family Visit Visa

2012-01-03 00:08:20

My wife and I have been married more than 11 years and we live here in Khon Kaen.  She has been to the UK twice before, in 2001 and 2005.  We want to apply for a family visit visa to the UK  but it's all changed since last time!

The visa application is now made online and I have completed it and saved it but not yet submitted it as I first want my wife to go through the answers to make sure they are correct.

Q1.  Do we submit the completed application before or after we make an appointment at VFS?  The appointment will be booked for the end of next week.

Q2.   There is no way on the application form to attach a sponsor's letter detailing the reason for the visa application.  How can I get such a letter to the ECO?

Q3.  I assume VFS will confirm receipt of the application when it has been submitted.  Will they vet it before the appointment and ask for clarification if necessary?

Q4.  Am I right in believing that my wife does not need to provide photos as VFS will take acceptable ones (at a price, of course)?

Q5.  Having hopefully looked at the application beforehand will VFS tell us what documents need be provided to support the application,  or do we have to take everything just in case?

Q6. Can I pay in cash?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Lung Bing

PS Last time in 2005 I went to the UK Embassy with my wife, we saw an ECO within half an hour or so, he asked me two questions  ECO:  " You're retired here are you"  me: "Yes sir"   ECO: "And you want to take your wife on a visit to see your family in the UK?"  Me:  "Yes sir"  ECO: " OK, pay over there and come back with the receipt.  Thank you."   Not a word to my wife and a just flip through the application folder taking out a couple of photos only.

Uk Family Visit Visa

2010-10-24 22:28:32

My father is 91 years old and quite well, but obviously anything could happen at any time.  My wife of ten years knows dad very well after 2 vists to the UK of one month each, and, until recently, many visits by my father to us.

In preparation for a hasty visit to the UK, my wife is going to apply soon for a two year family visit visa. As sponsor I will explain in the covering letter that the visa will only be for use in an emergency and, God willing, may not be used at all.

Having read as much info. about the visa application itself, I don't think we'll have too much trouble.

What is worrying my wife is that it appears we must provide original documents in the visa application.  As this will include her birth certificate, our wedding certificate, land ownerships papers etc  the potential for our life to be disrupted by the loss of these hard to replace documents is immense.

When we last applied for a visitor visa, about 5 years ago, I am sure that we provided copies and official translations where necessary of all documents, and that I put in my sponsor's letter that the original documents were readily available and could be produced if desired.

Is that likely to work again, or must the originals be included?  If so, what guarantee is there that they will be returned?

Thanks in advance,

90 Day Reporting Reduced To 29 Days

2010-09-27 19:03:35

I did my 90 reporting at Khon Kaen this morning (very busy with dozens of Burmese filling in forms)  and when the officer gave me back my passport after stapling in the new reporting form I checked it and he had put a reporting date of 26th October.   I queried this as I was expecting a date somewhere near the end of December.  He said 26th October was when my visa expired and he would not give me a reporting date past then.

I always thought the 90 day and the visa extension renewal were two separate items, not tied together.  I once had a 90 day started again from the visa renewal date, to try and get them in line I suppose, but have never had one cut short.

Is this normal?
