#5310407 Buckets Of Thai Coins

Posted bendix on 2012-05-18 12:30:10

Well, this is a pretty important problem.  I obviously hadnt thought through all the ramifications properly, wana.  I suspect that your problem is bigger than anyone individual member has the brain power to come up with, so I suggest we form a committee of members to discuss the problem and come up with a working paper and some recommendations.

Then - when TV members have voted on it as the way forward - I suggest we make it a sticky so that other members with the same issue know what to do.

As an aside, who was it on another thread suggesting TV is on a slippery slope?

#5259276 Motorcycle Tour

Posted JeffreyMcCollum on 2012-04-29 12:36:09

Where to start . . .

I ride about 100,000 km a year in Thailand.  Big bikes, small bikes, and others in between
I have been riding in Thailand for over 10 years.

Groups can be fun, but also add problems.  I have found alone or with just one other best for me.

I stay away from the biker weeks.  seems like they are more interested in showing off there bikes, and drinking beer. then really getting out and riding.

Some things to ask yourself is
a.) how much riding expereance do you have ?
b.) how much time do you have to ride ?
c.) what do you want to see ?
d.) what is your budget ?

Some will say big bikes are best.  And where they may at times be more comfotable,  If your lacking skills this is no place to start looking for them.  A smaller bike (wave) will get 50 - 60 km/l where the bigger bikes can be under 20 km/l adding to cost.  A Honda Wave or such is fixable in about every corner and back road in Thailand,  The bigger bikes are not.  And A small biek can get you in and out of some tight spots where larger bikes can not.  One thing I have noticed is on a bike of the masses, (Wave, Mio, Click, PCX etc..) you are much more accepted and accessable to the local people than if you pull in on your million Baht super bike.

I like to ride 400 - 600 km a day depending on the route.  Some do less, way less, and others more,  I have done 1300 km in one day on my NInja when I was called back to work (Trat to Chiang Mai)  I leave in the morning  just before 9 a.m. and like to ride untill 5 p.m.   Some one said not to ride after dark and I agree.  Roads I dont know poorly lit and more drunks out.

Don't worry about hte rainy season.  It is always the rainy season somewhere in Thailand.  Nov. - Feb. are cooler in the north.  Travel light but include a  rain jacket.  doesn't have to be anything fancy and some are avalable here for under 20 Baht.

Sunscreen.  Use it.  Good helmet, always use it.  Don't be the idiot in shorts and T shirt with flip flops on and no helmet.

Thailand is very bike friendly.  As well as friendly and helpful to others on bikes where you need help.

Have a sense of adventure.

Fuel cost for me average 200 - 600 Baht a day depending on bike size (Small - large)
I budget 200 - 300 Baht a day for food snacks, and drinks along the way.  I never drink beer or such while I am on a ride.  Adjust accordingly depending on what you eat and drink
Hotels I try to budget 500 - 600 a day.  I want a hot shower and sit down toilet.  But some go cheeper and others high end.  What do you want.at the end of each day/
A massage will add 100 or 200 a day

Some times it is fun to have a lady along but adds to cost and trouble at times.

I am soon planning a loop of Thailand on a Honda 125 Wave.  2 - 3 weeks and 6000 km.  done it all before but not all together.

Enjoy your ride, if you have questions or want to go riding some times, PM me and we can talk more

I had a good friend...then one night I found him in a ladyboy bar with a penis in his hand....I was shocked.

I say if it was his, it's still acceptable.

#4982912 Purchasing An Investment Condo In Bangkok

Posted Hooters on 2012-01-16 11:55:35

Dont listen to people who have never bought and rely on rumours only. Most of them dont have a bean and strugle to survive on the breadline, why the haunt the condo threads full time is beyond me

I own 2 condos untill last friday where the condo I bought off the plan on sukhumvit 101 was sold to a Japanese fellow for a very tidy profit but I did do some reasearch before I bought

1. I bought after viewing the Bts extensions before the new stations were built and then soucred a condo that would be near
the proposed Bts and made sure it would be built around the same time the condo would be completed.
Well the Bts was a year late but at least the tracks had been laid

2. that condo was built on progressive deposit meaning the downpayment was split into 24 months so you could view the progress and pay accordingly so there is pretty much zero risk of losing your depost due to inactive production.

3 buy on the highest floor available the extra money is well worth it

4. Go for it, some new  BKK condos have doubled in price in the last 7 years

Excuse me, but I haven`t any names. Glad you fell for my bait.

Well done having a non aryan child, my children are non white.

He didn't say you named names, he is saying that you are a typical liberal that starts to shout 'racist' as soon as anyone might point out that racial profiling of some individuals in some areas have a basis in statistics.

Those of you that have never witnessed any of us decent white folk dealing drugs, I suggest a few nights stay in Pattaya.

A couple of questions for you racists::if for example you had never visited Thailand or not ever associated with Thai people. Would you still have the same attitudes towards the Thais living or working in farangland as you share regarding the blacks and Indians over here? Or are Thais exempt from your list of inferior races because it suits you in able to live and do your deeds in Thailand?
I work and get on with Indians, Russians, Muslims from the Middle East and have a non Aryan child, but despite this many Africans in tourist areas are scum of the earth and cause trouble on a constant basis.

Its people like you i despise with your predictable your racist crap name calling.

I fail to see how this is a problem.

Many bars do not let them in either, because we don't want to drink with them.

I said to a bargirl once, 'Why do you keep the blacks out?' and she said 'Because if Farang see African man, he not come in'.
I said 'Yep, you're right'.

All they do is try and sell me cocaine, and try to 'look after me' on Sukhumvit. It gets quite tiring.

I ran out of reds today but will be back tomorrow to give you one.

I know plenty of those white folks who sell drugs also you bigot!

It shows the kind of people you associate with then, ive never once seen a white male pushing drugs in Sukhumvit or causing trouble in gangs like the West Africans do, theyre the reason why i will never step into this area again in the evening.

Pity the decent blacks suffer because of them. This company must have their reasons for taking such measures.

Thanks for your post which reminds us that racism is as widespread amongst Westerners as it is amongst Thais.

One night for a laugh as I was walking around the Nana - Asok area, I decided to simply approach every black I saw and ask for cocaine or weed. Every single one was able to give me info, prices, tell me where to go.

The only reason Africans are there is to commit crime. I'm not speaking from prejudice, I am speaking from experience.

As for the Indians, they're just .. [ 2 words deleted ]

You must read the general forum topics, loooooads of discussion regarding the thingy's but basically if you like or agree whole heartedly with a post you click the + green and the poster will know about it. The red is the opposite. :)

My mother in law pawning her gold for me when I was skint . I'm sure that doesn't happen every day to many people. On this forum anyway !

twice for me. once when we bought our house in Bangkok and we needed furniture my MIL and FIL lent us 300k. these guys are not wealthy at all but had that in life savings. then about 4 months ago again, but this time she pawned her gold along with my wife to help get us by when we took over our small restaurant. I was not told about this, I only found out when I came into a little money and my wife asked for 160k, I said no way honey this staying in the bank until biz picks up again.
then she told me about the gold! I was very suprised they have that amount in the house. but very grateful for the help.

so it does and can happen.:)

it certainly does.
my MIL is a 5 ft nothing  streetwise fireball that is not to be crossed if you get on the wrong side of her, but has a heart of gold to boot when comes to matters concerning family.
on our wedding day both i and my wife received gold chains, buddha and chatukham amulets, as well as a lump some of money
on more than one occasion she has helped out by pawning or selling valuable gold chains and diamond rings from trips to chinatown (yawalat). so that we could get all three of the businesses up and running. has also helped out with money requirement concerning visas, when i needed a cash boost.
shes not a wealthy person by any stretch of the imagination, but i guess by raising 9 children almost single handedly shes learnt a trick or two along the way and become a very shrewd and wise old lady. and it shows from the amount of love and respect shown to her from all generations within the family.

Guys.. The 3 of you add to the list of the strangest things I for sure have seen here. I mean, you come as a foreigner to a developing country to leech onto your Thai girlfriends mother and father that are not wealthy. They have to pawn gold for you to make a living here and to buy some furniture. Thats not cool at all. If you re that potless and I seriously think you should have stayed home. Posted Image
