Well I have only been here 6 years and did not realize this one is a new one. The way it was posted I thought that there had been a accident just in the last few years and I had misses it,
So.... you're saying that not everything posted on this forum by everyone is always accurately worded?

It would be nice if they had some thing accessible to the handicapped people but that is a long way off.
Was just thinking about that earlier this morning, that this funicular/elevatorallows the elderly and less mobile to visit the temple; even if it's not fully wheelchair accessible, it's still a helluva lot more feasible for some grandmother to use compared to those stairs! (And I have a feeling that they'll find a way to get people in wheelchairs up there too, even if it means some assistance by two burly Thais.)

My daughter is having difficulty with languages in general. that's on top of us not being an english speaking family. so i'd have to rule it out.
In that case I really don't understand why you would want an international school, or even a bilingual school or English program. International schools exist BECAUSE they offer all classes in English, to a UK or US curriculum. They are most suited for families who are staying in Thailand temporarily, for example because they're placed here by an employer or government for some period of time, but will then be moving on and their kids will still need to fit into the UK or US educational system. That's why they can charge a premium: UK/US standards for everything, and companies and governments paying the bills no matter how stratospheric they get.
If you don't want any of that including the language, then you should not be even looking at international schools but at good quality private Thai schools. There are many of those in Chiang Mai.

Why that particular Big C by the way? There are other big super centers that are much easier to reach by virtue of being on a regular route by buses and out-of-town songthaews. Specifically Tesco Lotus on the Hang Dong road, Big C on the Hang Dong road, and also Meechoke Plaza on the Mae Jo road.
All of those have regular Songthaews passing that start around the Warorot Market. (Yellow for the Hang Dong road, but confirm they are indeed passing Hang Dong), and I think green for the Mae Jo road where Meechoke Plaza is on.
Also Tesco Kham Thiang on the superhighway is slightly easier to reach by regular red Songthaew.
If you absolutely need Big C on the superhighway (Called Big C Don Chan) then a red songthaew would still be best, but you'll likely be negotiating the fare. (40-60 baht?)

Anyway, a full cable car up a mountain has been done in Hong Kong. It works pretty well there and is popular. Lantau Island near Hong Kong (where also the airport is, and Disneyland Hong Kong) even looks visually a bit like the mountains around Chiang Mai.

And they have a mountain tram to go to Victoria Peak, above Hong Kong island:

(Again that's a spot very similar to the way Doi Suthep is to Chiang Mai.)
