#5204595 Happy Radio - 98.5

Yeah, was wondering what happened to TITS, they had some goodish dj's for a while there, but as with any Thai medium that involves a dj with volume controls in their hands you had to be careful as to when you tuned in.  After 5 was particularly bad.

#5202337 Internet Dating Or Goings To Bars.....?

Posted kerryk on 2012-04-09 07:37:37

Dear Hardened Soul,

I got here for the first time when I was 22, now I am an old codger.  I know what I am talking about with the Pandora's box effect.

The danger for a young man is not being able to duplicate what he finds in Thailand in the West; dooming him to a second class life here while forgoing the opportunities of his homeland.

#5158265 Gentleman'S Club

Sawasdee Khrup, Khun WTK,

I must admit I find the term "gentleman's club" both an anachronism, and an oxymoron, reeking of chauvinism and colonialism :) But I was happy to realize (hypothesize ?), as I read on, that your intent here was irony.

For myselves, the idea of hanging out with a group of males, because they are males, excluding the other species, females, who, in general, contain a much higher proportion of "humanity" than "males," seems as logical as the English comedian Eddie Izzard's comment that he was "a lesbian trapped in a man's body."

And doesn't Chiang Mai already have many clubs which are "virtually" male-only: in the sense that they are bars where the women are in servile roles, and combination door-mats and place-mats, as well as take-out sexual fast-food, while said males, heads perched above whale-bellies, croak to each other their songs of being victims, and complain endlessly about Thailand ?

imho what Chiang Mai needs is a club where highly literate people, of any sexual gender, or persuasion, can discuss .... literature.

Tesco is worth checking out too.........was in there the other day and they were selling a 10" Acer netbook for 7200 baht

when u buy a computer in thailand it comes with a copy of xp installed............i have a genuine  windows xp home  disc unused with license code for one computer that i brought from UK but dont need it now i paid £30 for it off ebay so if u want it i will take 1500 baht which is cheaper than u can buy in thailand
why would anyone choose to buy XP now? The last two decent laptops I bought had windows seven original home edition already installed. Even the cheap one I bought had a knocked off version on it. XP it very dated now.

a lot of people are happy using XP as it is what they are used to...........vista was an awful opearting system in my opinion.and windows 7 is still quite new and am sure i saw it in the Airport Plaza for 5000 baht for the genuine item with a license....i am not trying to sell the xp to the poster, more doing him a favour at that price.........if i really wanted to sell it it would be on all the free classifieds websites today

Windows 7 is still quite new?  It was released mid 2009.   This is 2012.  Do the math.

Windows XP was released way back in 2001 and Microsoft ended mainstream support for XP back in 2009.

Pawning off an old, antiquated and mostly unsupported operating system at ANY price is not doing anybody any favors.

#5110846 What Are The Advantages Of Buying Property In Chiang Mai

I bought a house about 7.5 years ago.  I figure, right about now would be the break even point on what I'd have paid had I rented it versus buying it, Not taking into consideration the currency I bought it with has depreciated 30% + since then and it's market value has doubled (according to the recent unsolicited offer I had).  I tend not to think about that stuff, as its my home.  I feel sorry for people that see their home as one of their investments.
Completely agree and although I built instead of bought I have seen a similar appreciation. But it was pure luck. Houses have never been a good investment outside of credit bubbles IMO. And LOS will not escape the current global real estate devaluation.

if another vehicle weights 2 tonnes and yours weights 200 kg you better be dam_n ready to get out of the way ,yesterday i had to move over for an angry pick up driver at high speed

he was almost touching the back wheel trying to squeze through a gap that was barely there Posted Image

theres no room to bargain when ur on a bike ,you dont have the benefit of bumpers or a cage  and the  crumple zones are going to be your bones ,one touch and you maybe roadkill stuck under someones oversized  wheels

you need 360 degree vision to be safe ,always ready to brake or acelerate or swerve  from danger

Your example reinforces my preference to ride a fast bike. I never have to worry about what's behind me cuz it's always shrinking in my mirrors :) oh wait... I don't have any mirrors ;)

Pretty simple. There are over 300 million Americans. They should equal almost all the Europeans combined.

Try again.. the population of Europe is 731,000,000
He might have meant working ones.

Definitely lots of American missionaries here. At the Superbowl watching party held at the Empress Hotel we missed the halftime show to listen to some lady ramble on for several minutes praying for Burma.

Next year I'll definitely watch it at one of the bars.

If line-dancing, or the lack there of, is your biggest concern about relocating to Chiang Mai then you are either very lucky or in for a rude awakening.  I wish you the best of luck because it sounds like you might be unaware of what you are getting yourself into.  You are in good company, however.

Just take a nice smokey breath of air and relax into it.Posted Image
