Thanks for the review of the Almera, 'lovelomsak'. I drive a City so I'm intrigued by the Almera's astonishing 20km/litre efficiency. If you have time, when you next fill up could you report on the economy you're getting? I read the Bangkok Post's review and they got 12.8km/l which made sense as I've parked my City next to an Almera and they are the same size. I'd appreciate your experience.
Thanks.
Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I wanted to see if 20 kilo to the litre was possible also.  I tried benzine 91 at first and got 17 1/2 kilo to the litre. Changed to gasahol still 17 1/2.  So I changed my driving habits. Now I get the 20 kilo per litre. I used to drive 120 to 140 kph on the highway. I slowed down to 100kph. I also used to like to accelerate quickly, now I just keepup with the traffic. I only use gasahol now also. So 20 kilo per litre is quite possible with proper driving habits.
Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm really impressed by the efficiency. I actually took an Almera for a test drive and really liked it, it's a great car for driving around Bangkok with nice features so looks great value for money. Cheers.

In Topic: Steroid Vacation In Thailand

I read the article about steroid vacations, it's quite well written and gives a balanced view through interviews with users and doctors but I don't understand, why it's been written? Similar situations have long existed all over the world and will continue to do so as steroids are the only solution to get a real bodybuilder physique, ie. US users travel to Mexico.
Perhaps the article was prompted by an increase in the number of users - I remember the British powerlifters who ran 'Redicat' from Pattaya were busted and once their supply of 'paper' steroids ceased (absorbed into paper and mailed to avoid detection) this could have prompted more users to visit.
I've had a look for myself at what's available in the pharmacy shops in Nana and I'd recommend anyone thinking of coming to Thailand to read William Llewellyn's book 'Anabolics' (2006 and later) to familiarize themselves with the fakes and underground. From what I saw there is very little genuine gear available so I see why users return to a trusted source and the worrying trend I noted is that even products from underground labs with a good reputation are being counterfeited now.

In Topic: 2Nd Hand Civic, 38,000Km On Clock, 760K, Is This Value?

I liked culicine's advice - you'd need to know the model of Civic S, E, or EL to judge whether the price is fair. Test Car is a fair service, they give no recommendation whether to buy or not, or for what price, they just test and report. For just 100 baht you could get a valuation from the Red Book website; they give the same info in Thai and English and give both a trade-in and private sale suggested value.

I have enormous sympathy to the mothers who lost their sons, RIP, good luck to them getting their foreign office to give more warnings. However, I think they are asking a little to much - I've been driving in Thailand, mostly Bangkok, for over five years now and it's not that crazy. The worst things I see are people not stopping for pedestrians and not indicating but it's generally ordered if compared with, say, India as seen in this video from youtube.

If you're only interesting in space/value you've got to be looking at a pickup; maneuverability is a concern but I'll wager that half your neighbors have trucks. With trucks the excise tax is so much less, you get the best value for money. Toyota has the best resale value, look at Toyota Sure certified used for peace of mind with a year's warranty and no waiting times, fuel costs are comparable with any sedans on the list as diesel is so much cheaper. Add to that it's safer in a crash, higher, better driving position and it handles the pot-holed and sometimes flooded Thai roads better.
