I bought the AIS one at the airport plaza from Telewiz a couple of weeks back. It was currently 2990 THB, but the SIM card they give you is for a free 30 hour Edge+ only. You can upgrade to a 3G plan.
They might still advertise it for 3990 THB, so take note. I bought it at that price and then saw it at the cheaper price on the AIS website. Good thing they gave me back the difference.

Thanks once again.
NancyL, I don't think the trains would let you be in the same compartment as the dogs even if you have a private one. We asked before back in 2010 and they said dogs have to go in the cargo area, so we rather drive.
The car rental companies don't allow dogs, but we keep the car clean and make sure we clean them out before returning them. So far no issues.
Dean1953, you did Bangkok to Kansas all in one trip? How did the dog fare at the end?
We have a 14 hour (SFO->TPE), 3 hour layover, then 3.5 (?) to BKK. We are unsure if it would be too stressful for them if we collect them at BKK because you have to clear the pet quarantine, then immediately put them on another plane to CNX. I can related to the dog taking a dump in the airport. Last time we arrived from LAX, one of my dogs held the entire way and let everything go the moment she was out of her crate outside the animal office in the airport ;-)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
You are quite right. I would take the flight if cost was the only concern.
I am thinking of driving because of my dogs. After stepping off the plane after a 20 hour flight (including transit time), I thought it would be nice to give them a break.

Ok, but in the real world, the one beyond Thaivisa.com tinfoilers, those aren't actual things that people are concerned about.

Yes we will, but not on the return leg.
I figured I'll take economy on the shorter leg and then premium on the 777 on the longer journey, over premium (on 777) to Taipei followed by premium on the 747 to SFO.
I rang Bangkok Airways (in BKK) and they say they will not check through, and they want to sedate the dogs even for that 1 hour flight. Thai was better, but they also will not do check through.
I guess they will only do it if you had make the travel arrangements with an agent that makes everything in one booking.

So you will not be getting deluxe economy from Taipei to Bangkok.

So I have booked ourselves on EVA.
I had totally forgotten about the difference in baggage allowance. When you said BKK Air will transfer your bags from EVA, will they charge you more for the additional bags that were considered within limits on EVA?
thanks
