In Topic: Chiang Rai Haze Remains Critical

Sorry not in chaing rai but to give an idea i'm in khon kaen.

The reason farmers burn is with the prices of herbicides and labour to spray them against burning is not viable with commidity prices on killing weeds.

Added the extra hectares of sugar in because its price is reasonably good and its harvest time now.

For me its the national parks doing the most damage,in my area at least, controlled burns of nothing but wet green fire breaks.

Having said that thais still need a lot of education on how to burn and when.

Dig up a sett,if still green its ok.
Normally got about 40 days till it goes off but dont panic.
Use 16-16-16 or 15-15-15 fertilizer,100 kg a rai,50 with planting and 50 when sugar starts to boot up.
That with good seasonal rain should get you 14 plus ton a rai

In Topic: Lack Of Rain Again

Maybe you need to look at an alternative crop or a shorter season variety of rice.

Here in phuphaman (khon kaen)  we average 55-60 inches a year with opening rains at songkran and falling through to middle of october with little rain after till april again.

Out of interest what would your annual rainfall be?

Anyhow hope the rain comes soon for your area and everyone gets a crop in..
