This is just hilarious. Every single main road of every single tourist destination is full of copies that being a watch or a polo-shirt.

Is there anywhere in Thailand where you can purchase original products?

There are a few places but I don't think many are sold due to their high price....a high price caused by the high import/luxury tax placed on them by the Thai govt.  So, fake ones are sold instead.

They are sooooooooooo pathetic, ranting away about the Thai image on their laptops with cracked OS........
Actually I recently bought a laptop that came without an OS. The store, one of Thailand biggest electrical retailers not only offered to install a pirated OS they were unable to tell me where I could buy a genuine OS.

#5326952 Warning! Fake Bt1,000 And Bt100 Banknotes Circulating In Thailand

Posted tinfoilhat on 2012-05-24 10:46:26

i love this quote:

Quote

The fake banknotes are smaller in size than the real one and when you pour water on the fake ones the color will fade.

Good god, if you are going to go to all the trouble of counterfeiting money, i would think the dimensions of the bill itself would be the one thing that is actually easy to get right.

What if scenario.......what if the election commission found just cause to suspend or disband either the PTP or Democrats, or both, what a pretty mess that would make on the political landscape, who would step in to fill the void? Who would be caretaker till new parties could be formed?

Corruption by politics and officials in Thailand should be considered as lese Majeste offences and punished accordingly. One can't make personal profits on the back of the Kingdom, it is stealing the King and his subjects.

#5301402 Thai Unionists 'Laid Off In Wake Of Wage Increase'

Posted geriatrickid on 2012-05-15 09:23:59

I am not a fan of large unions. However, I recognize that unions serve an important and valuable role in countries like Thailand, if only the  most at risk groups were able to join unions. This article is depressing if one takes into consideration the natuure of unions in Thailand. Approximately 4% of the labour force is unionized. Of that, almost half are in the better paying governmet sector such as the state railways, or at Thai Airways.  That means that there just isn't much of a unionized private sector workforce which in turn means that the wage is being used as an excuse to harass union members.  I believe a person has the right to work, but I also believe that a person has the right to join a union.

#5094114 Facebook Partly The Cause Of Unwanted Thai Teen Pregnancies: NESDB

Posted atsiii on 2012-02-28 11:45:25

But if  760,000 babies were "born," by definition that means they were NOT aborted.  And for 411,000 of those births to have died, that would mean the infant mortality rate was 54%, would it not?

Other causes being researched: 100% of all teens who engage in sexual behavior have parents who are older than they are!  Researchers in Thailand propose that teens be given parents who are younger than they are in order to end this troubling pattern.

What did your wife actually say, did she say it was a bad thing or a good thing?

I would imagine your wife would have a fine balancing act to play as you are a farang, there may be a lot of expectation on her via you.

There may also be people in the village that look forward to the event. Interesting topic.

She has told me she doesn't agree with it either.

On another occasion they were collecting for something else for the wat ( i think they all needed top ups for their mobiles or something). The wife gave as normal but when she put 100 baht in the dish, the guy actually started hassling her, asking why because she has a farang, didn't she put more money in. this was in front of the neighbours. she just walked away but he kept on talking. she turned around and walked back over, put her hand in her purse again, opened it and then put her hand in the dish and took the 100 baht back. the guy couldnt believe it and neither could the neighbours.  Posted Image

#5217244 Exiled Thaksin Inches Closer To Return To Thailand

Posted waza on 2012-04-14 10:53:55

I took a shortcut down a lane in Phnom Phehn, just one street from the riverfront, on my way back to my hotel one night.  The lane was very dark with no lighting it took me several meters in til my eyes becames accustom to it.  First the smell hit me the lane was like an open sewer, with liquid excretia covering it and piles of rubbish strewn around.  I then notice movements, rats were everywhere, crawling through the rubbish piles and running back and forth across the lane, I was concerned I would be bitten as they showed no fear of me.  I was at the point of no return when I notice one of the large piles of rubbish move, it was then that I realised that much of what I thought was rubbish were people sleeping on pallets or carboard.  It was my first experience with extreme poverty like that and thankfull I live in a country with a social security safety net.

Very well spotted!!!

No need for soap. Everyone knows that you use the left hand to wipe your bum, and you eat with the right hand.   Sheeesh.

If they are clever they will pull out of the deal - who wants to go into business with someone that with a very minimal time-frame makes demands and then publicly blames you for delays because of it?

Unless the tablets are overpriced junk-clones and the whole sale is a scam, ofcourse...
No reason to be negetive.  Let's hope for the best.

#5187401 Cash Shortfall At State Hospitals Sparks Budget Probe: Thailand

Posted ginjag on 2012-04-03 09:19:38

Ozmick, Thais think bookkeeping is a library=stock taking is stealing= and audits are a type of tourist. Supervisor is a large add on to a crash helmet. Our local hospital administrator/manager is a well known corrupt person, especially on pharmacy stocks, working together with doctors for big handouts. Our health and environment officer is aware and unable to intervene as the person in charge has friends in high places. If this happens here it must happen in most town hospitals-my guess
