I used to buy all my unsalted butter from Makro, usually Orchid brand. Now my local branch at Changwattana only stocks butter blend spread or compound butter. While these are OK for baking the taste is not the same and I prefer to use the real stuff.
Is anybody still buying large packs of butter at their local Makro in Bangkok? Or know a good source for unsalted pure butter? Choco Schimdt doesn't seem to stock it.
I buy 10-20kg at a time so the small packs of Lurpack from Villa are not an option.

Bicycle Wheels On Motorbikes / Scooters, Don'T Do It!
2012-02-07 17:57:13
Those thin wheels and tyres Thai's like to put on their bikes have always been a pet hate of mine.
Today I was travelling northbound along Vibhavadi Rangsit approaching the Nakhon Nayok turn off, heading to Khao Yai to annoy Samsiam as it happens. I was behind a guy on a Click with thin wheels and tyres when he hit a pot hole. It was quite a big hole, certainly the kind of hole it's best to avoid if possible. With a loud bang his rear wheel completely destroyed itself leaving him fishtailing down the road at 80kph. He somehow managed to hold it together until his speed dropped to about 20kph when he hit the deck. He was obviously a bit shocked but no real bodily damage done, he was wearing a helmet, gloves, jacket etc.
It was a disturbing sight but I'm sure he has probably already bought another bicycle wheel to replace it already.

We rang Toyota today and explained to them that our business has been flooded for a month. They gave us a 2 month holiday from the payments with no fuss at all, took a couple of minutes only. A big help to us while we wait for the water to go down.
Thanks Toyota. Now get the Hilux updated so I don't have to buy the new D-Max when the time comes!

Bike Safe Route From Bangkok To The Ne?
2011-10-30 10:51:43
I am thinking about making a quick trip back to Bangkok to pick up my 650R from the car park I dumped it in when fleeing the rising waters. Can anybody please help me with a no water route from the Chaengwattana area heading towards Korat? In the car we took Ramintra to the motorway and then through Khao Yai on the 304. Obviously the motorway is out and the trip throug Khao Yai is not something I would wish to repeat in 5 lifetimes.
I'm a bit short on bandwidth here in the sticks for much google maps studying which is why I'm asking for help and current knowledge of the flooding situation.
Thanks in advance, now I have to arrange a boat to get to the house to pick up riding gear!

Multiple Maps On Garmin Nuvi 215W
2011-03-18 10:03:31
I have a Garmin Nuvi 215W bought in Thailand with the official ERSI maps.
I have the latest version firmware and English map on the units internal memory which works fine. I also wanted to have the Thai map for those times when trying to work out how they spell something in English is too difficult. I downloaded the Thai language map from my account on GPSociety and copied it to a memory card. I named the map 'gmapsupp.img' and placed it on a folder named 'Garmin' on the SD card.
Now when I boot the unit the map defaults to the Thai language map. When I go to the tools -> map -> Map Info I can not select between the English and Thai maps. The screen shows the Thai map next to the check box, then underneath and indented is says [1] ALL [2] Thailand (...) [Eng] ALL
I would like to be able to switch between Thai and English maps without removing the SD card each time. Is this possible?
