#5080331 Why Limit How Many Times A Day You Can Use 'Like This' Button?

Posted BookMan on 2012-02-23 11:46:10

While reading some threads I clicked on 'Like this' a number of times  (i have no idea how many).   After a while i received the following message.

"You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day"

Why limit the number of different posts you can 'Like'?  (is this for newer members?)

If you are reading hundreds of different posts in any 24 hour period it makes sense that you will like quite a few.

It isn't like people earn Bonus Reward Points, redeemable by cash if they get a lot of 'Likes'.

Isn't the purpose of the Like button to appreciate posts that you agree with or enjoy or find useful?   Sure, someone might like EVERY post they read...  but why would that matter anyway?

Thoughts?

#5146993 Motorcycle Rules Of The Road And Laws

I don't have the bylaw...but I know it actually is the law.

The police are lying through their teeth actually.

There is NOTHING in the Thai Land Traffic Act that states motorcycles are required to stay in the left-most lane.

Sections 33 and 34 of the Land Traffic act state that ALL vehicles should stay left except when overtaking, road is less than 6m wide, road is one way, left lane is a bus lane, it is necessary to be in correct lane when approaching a junction, etc etc.

If you have some free time and want to have some fun, next time the brown mafia tries to scam money out of you for not being in the left lane challenge them to show you what law you have broken. They can't and will eventually send you on your way as they see other victims roll by. Of course if you're in a hurry it's faster to just grease 'em and go.

Please note that there are many areas where police have put up signs stating motorcycles should stay left. Similarly, some flyover and bridges are off limits to bikes and others aren't. You have to look for the signs. At the end of the day you have to remember that time is money and everything in Thailand is negotiable Posted Image

Happy Trails!

#5145750 Over 1 Million Thais Are Infected With Hiv/Aids

not true... 80% of hiv in thailand is heterosexually transmitted (compared to 10% in the US/west) ... the subtype (type e) much easier to transmit through hetero contact...

university of new south wales, aus puts subtype e at a 50 fold higher transmission rate chance than the US (subtype b )..

assuming you're having sex with infected individuals, chance is 1 in 30 to 1 in 50 or so with subtype e as opposed to 1 in 500 to 1 in 1000 with the subtype predominant in the US (subtype b )

i suggest you google something to the effect of "hiv transmission heterosexual thailand" to learn more.

According to Wikipedia there is a 1 in 2000 chance for a male having bareback vaginal sex with an HIV infected female to become infected
with the HIV virus. Anal intercourse is far more dangerous, by around 30 times, and even with a condom is a similar risk to bareback sex.

http://en.wikipedia....IV#Transmission

As regards the notion that the HIV-E strain dominant in Thailand is much more potent or far easier to catch than the HIV-B strain dominant
in America, the following opinions did not support that theory:

"This study basically says that they should look for other reasons why strain E is spreading so fast in South East Asia."

http://jvi.asm.org/c.../71/10/8001.pdf

"I think the high rate of hetero infection in Thailand is simply due to the fact it is a more promiscuous society. The sex industry is so pervasive, there is simply more extramarital activity occuring. It remains to be proven that Subtype E is any more invasive. The fact that it has not become more prevalent in the West after many years contradicts the theory.

"Seems like a reach to me. Have they accounted for how huge the sex trade is in Thailand, needle use in Thailand. This is just a thought, but in the beginning, aids was thought of as a homosexual disease. Segregation between the orientations kept the spread to homosexuals for a long time. Would it not be hard to believe that hiv had its root in heterosexual sex in Thailand and that segregation again slows the transmission to the homosexual population, which could account for the 80% prevalence in heterorsexuals. I don't know, I just don't see that statistic as proof that E type is more transmissionable then B type"

"I figure that if there is any difference in reported HIV transmission route here in Thailand is probably more likely down to people not answering truthfully questions on how they got the virus. Can't Imagine that many Thais admitting to anal sex, gay sex or injecting drug use. Besides how would it account for the fact that HIV cases in Thailand are 70%+ males? Especially when it's far easier for women to catch than men.

"He rambles about how much easier subtype E is to acquire compared to other clades. If that was the case, it would have become dominant worldwide a long time ago! It doesn't make sense. The reason HIV is predominantly heterosexual in Thailand is same as why HIV is heterosexual in Africa. Rampant prostitution with low condom usage. Why look for complex answers when you have an obvious one? This guy may be a guru, but he doesn't sound anything like an HIV expert to me.

"Female to male transmission occurs more readily if the man is uncircumcized". In Thailand only 13% are circumcised, most of these Muslims. In the USA and Canada 70 and 30 percent respectively are reported as being circumcised.

. Sheriff Kevin Walsh said he did not know how the FBI tracked them down in Thailand.

a law enforcement sheriff has no idea how to track a kidnapper who has been identified  to the authorities  ?

first ,they check his passport number in the central database, then they know the last time he flew and into which city

then ,check his atm .credit cards and see where he has been withdrawing cash ,then you have his neighbourhood /areas he frequents (say sukhumvit rd etc )

then you check how many farangs are in rented homes and guesthouses  in this area (you cant rent anything anymore without your passport copy and landlord must sent that to immigration ,even if u only stay a night  ) ,talk to locals about seeing  a man with a little farang girl etc and show pictures of him to all the thais in that vicinity

and you will probably have him arrested within 24 -48hrs

how can a "sheriff"  go in the media and say silly things "well,i dont know how ,but  they found him etc "

its like homer simpson policework Posted Image

You're reading comprehension leaves a little to be desired.

The sheriff didn't say that he didn't know how to track someone down.  He said that he does not know specifically how the FBI did it in this particular case. It could have been one of the methods you mentioned, or it could have been a tip from a family member, a phone tap, or a hundred other possibilites.

With your attention to detail may I suggest you stick to your day job.  Posted Image

NESUB: Spoons partly cause of obesity
BANGKOK, 28 February 2012 (NNT) - According to the National Economic and Social Underdevelopment Board (NESUB), the famous item of cutlery has partly contributed to the cause of obesity.

The NESUB has revealed that people in the age group of 18-24 are the biggest group of spoon users, accounting for 40% of all users.

The Board said that the cutlery size is partly to blame for the obesity problems as some youngsters post delicious food messages or video clips online.

According to the NESUB, Thai porkers under 20 years old accounted for 14% of all porkers who used spoons in 2009 and 2010. From this percentage, the UNICEF has placed Thailand on top of the list of spoon users in Asia.

The public health survey in 2010 indicated that out of 760,000 spoons used, 411,000 had broken. The NESUB said that the figure shows that a number of porkers decided to break the spoons themselves.

Cuisine in Absurdia takes some getting used to. In fact I don't I think I'll ever feel comfortable with the meat here. You bite into it and it starts singing Sinatra songs. Not that the vegetables are much better. Especially the carrots; can't really post the stories they have to tell.
