I've been reading it's not near the happening areas.I would stay at A closer hotel to the festivities.go to udonmap and you'll get a better idea.plus you can state your question there.
Thanks 'thrilled' for the info...this is my first trip there and i thought the hotel is in the city area....anyway which hotel/hotels would you suggest..thanks... :jap:

Friends and I have stayed at the Top. Mansion hotel several times.

Rates are 370 baht per night and they have very clean rooms, aircon, balcony(small), Wi fi, secure car park. etc. Excellent value and good staff and facilities also.

Located in Soi Samphanthamit road and 10 metres from Soi day/night which has around 20 bars. This Soi has several other bars as well and is a five minute walk to Nutty park which has around 25 bars. Good and cost effective places to eat also in this soi along with internet cafes, massages, laundries, hairdressers etc. etc.

Irish Clock is also in this Soi and has good rooms but at a higher price. Good food, good staff and management as well. No joiner fee either.

Telephone numbers are 0423450159 and 0879238383 and email is topmansion@yahoo.com

Any questions feel free to send me a PM

Hope this is of some help.

I did my 90-day report in Korat two weeks ago. Apart from the 400 kilometer round trip, I obviously live further out in the sticks than Sinbin, I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. I found the Immigration staff to be very friendly, helpful, polite and efficient. Moreover, they showed some initative with the 90-day report. My report was due on 2 September and the next report should have been 90 days later on 1st December. However, without any input from me the officer saw that I was due to extend my 12-month visa (retirement) on 30th December and made the next 90-day reporting period 30th December too, an extra 29 days. As she handed back the passport and TM47 she said she had extended the 90-day report to save me the trouble of coming in again before the visa extension. Now that is what I call good service!

For sure, the 90-day report is a pain in the arse, quite literally with a 400 kilometer round trip every three months, but I do understand that 'the rules are the rules'. Still, its refreshing to see some common sense and a little bending of the rules to make our lives easier. <_<

Do you live in Surin as your profile says? If so you can do your 90 day report at Chong Chom (71 kms from Surin) or at one of the bimonthly immigration visits either at Surin or Buriram. They visit Surin one month and the next month is at Buriram.

Hope this is of some help to you.
Are you talking about a mail drop service? There are several in Australia.

About five years ago I was going to wander around Asia without a fixed address. One of my banks objected to me having an ever changing Asian hotel address. The solution was to use an Australian mail drop service.

I used "Continental Relay Mail Drop". Their website is still up so they may be still operating. They assign you a pretend street address because some institutions won't accept post office box numbers.

As an example my address was:

Joe Bloggs
Suite 111
9 Tanbark Circuit
NSW 2747.

My bank was happy to send mail to that "street address".

Continental Relay hold your mail for you until you contact them with a forwarding address. Then they send a parcel containing all your mail to you. I never had any problems with Continental Relay, except for the expense and the fact they send you (and charge you for) your junk mail.

There are several similar companies in Australia, with different costs and services. These days they can even open and scan your mail and email you the scan instead of the original letter - thus avoiding the Thai postal system. SOSMail.com.au does this. Google "mail drop service australia" for other providers.

Some very good advice given and my thanks to all who have replied.

I don't understand .The sender pays the postage. not the addressee.I get all my mail sent to me here in Thailand, from Oz.. However ,I had difficulty with mail from my Post Office to my village .Some went missing. What did come would take around 12-15 days to travel 15 kilometres. I cured the problem by renting a Post Office Box, at my local Post Office. Works well. Very happy

Thank you for your reply.

Not sure what you don't understand. All my mail is presently sent to my friend's address in Australia not Thailand. Perhaps I will need to write to all of the companies sending me mail and advise them of my Thai address and see if they will send letters here and then wait and see if they actually arrive!. I have been reluctant to do this as I was unsure of how good the mail service is here with letters coming from overseas.

Good to hear that your mail is arriving safely in Thailand albeit with some difficulty which you have now fixed. with the post box.

I don't like men. Sorry, no offense I never have liked men. Old men, young men, doesn't make any difference I just don't like em. The "mate" thing really freaks me out. Guys going out together, wow, just beyond my ability to understand. It is why I didn't move to Australia when I was a young man because it had a lot of other things going for it but the mate thing I could not get used to.

In Thailand I don't have much problem avoiding men. I have found out how to solve the bar girl problem without becoming angry and not smiling. I thought I would share it with you. Only talk to new ladies that have been there for less than two days. This is easier around college break times and if you schedule your time near bars during this period it will go easier. The braces are OK. It messes with their accent a bit but you get used to it.

Ladies and uni students who have only been in the bars for a couple of days are good company.
