#5234591 Is Mae Rim Cooler Than In Chiang Mai City?

Posted T_Dog on 2012-04-20 10:53:47

We live up in Mae Taeng and we have only had four mornings above 70 degrees F so far this year.  Day time temps have been high but only in the mid to late afternoon.  Closer to the hills or in the hills things are much cooler.   If you are in the flats by the river in Mae Rim, it will likely be as hot as Chiang Mai, but get in the hills and things are much more comfortable.

No.

Not during the day anyway.

At night, places outside the city (in any direction) cool down just a little faster, which is most noticeable in the cool season when you suddenly feel a temperature drop not too far out of town. (When riding a motorbike, or with the windows open).   A  part of Mae Rim district is in the hills, it would get cooler there at night, in the cool season.

During the hot season during the day though, it's super hot everywhere.

Look forward to 40 degrees C in the shade. ;)

A working group consisting of amongst others, officials from HM Treasury and members of the pressure group the International Consortium of British Pensioners (ICBP),

I bet the ICBP are a hoot on a Saturday night out.
They are a Canadian based group who are fihting on behalf of the UK overseas pensioners, doing it would seem more than you and I and lot others are doing, I salute them for that and I hope they are a hoot on any night, like you and me eh?

I made this point before, but got nil support.

Pensioners living in the UK will likely plough ALL their money back into the economy there, buying their food and paying  tax such as VAT.

Ex-pats, by definition will put most of their pension into the coffers of their country of choice.

I agree  with the existing situation.
One day you may view things differently, I am guessing that you are not drawing your pension yet. I assume you may be in Thailand also if I am right on those assumptions, dont go running back and expect the NHS to help you will you. HMRC may be taking your taxes but dont think you are a UK resident you may not be classed as one and a whole raft of things you thought were yours of right simply dont apply.
If things change I assume you will be refusing your annual inflationary increases along with Bendix and others on this thread?

For all the contributors on this thread who do not wish to sign the petition and possibly right a wrong, for those who seem to indicate they will somehow be able to live with out recourse to the state pension, its up to you to claim it and my bet is that all of you will claim it. Its not insignificant and its wrong that the government should tell you, a free man ( or woman ) where you can live or not live. Its a bit like saying if you live in Newcastle you can have the pension but if you move to Bournemouth you  can also get it but wont get any inflationary rises. I say this on a national level as oppossed to the international situation that prevails to point out that you should not be told where you choose to live when you get to pensionable age.
For those who carp about the cost in total including the British economy there is a very simple solution, take it out of the Overseas Aid Budget which again does not do much for the British Economy and is often given to countries would not need it, some admit to that ( but why look a gift horse in the mouth?)or some regimes that are being propped up year after year because they cannot get their act together, perhaps they have no incentive too?

This forum would not be the same without some pension thread would it. I am happy that those who dont agree sign away any change in the situation ( inflationary increases are re instated ). For those who have provided for themselves I salute you, for those of you and Bendix I include you in this who can forsee what the retirement world will look like in 20+ years then I hope you know what you are doing its a big ask to predict what the world will be like in 20+ years time. At that time you might be up to your waist in crap and no one coming to to your aid because it your problem and they are not your age so FO.
Its not right the way British Pensioners are being treated, some in not very financially secure positions, ok we know if you live in some countries its ok, but its not right and its not fair and for people to pour cold water on the issue is a poor show, smacks a bit of I'm alright jack."
