#5321672 Bangkok-Chiang Mai High Speed Rail Ready By 2018: Transport Ministry

Posted Reasonableman on 2012-05-22 12:49:52

Doesn't a feasibility study try to determine WHETHER the project is feasible? Perhaps announcing the completion date is a little premature.

Some of the land in the railway corridors may need to be resumed, I guess... and equipment purchased... that's a lot of concrete and rails... 6 years, huh? ... hmmmmm

If you have been thru immigration entering the US, you would see it makes a really bad first impression of the country, and tinges the rest of the experience. Ignorant, aggressive, supercilious gun-toting immigration staff sneering at the stupidity of new arrivals who dare to think they are worthy enough to visit doesn't create a positive impression, I'm afraid.

Anything anyone wants to know about Thailand is all wrapped-up in the story of Suwanabhumi's development ... the Royal Thai government's indemic corruption, the unique Thai cultural values preventing them from rising above incompetence and succeeding at anything approaching an international standard.

It is a facinating story, but a sad one.

With all the resources of the world at their disposal for a project that attracted the best talent in the world, this is the best Thailand could do.

Sadly, it is a story repeated again and again, all visible for the world to see ...rampant flooding; adulterated sprinkler systems in high-rise tourist hotels that then burn; street cops extorting money from tourists for allegedly littering; the now world infamous Thai jet-ski scams, etc.

Thailand is a place that interests foreigners, sure, but Thailand struggles to rise above 3rd world standards.  Maybe it is a nostalgic return to the undeveloped world that holds foreigner's interest in Thailand.

While Thailand's new airport failed to meet the standards of any new international airport opened in the last couple of decades (especially those built by its Asian big brothers, who have risen above 3rd world), it does not threaten the world as a Thai-built and operated nuclear power plant would ... now THAT is something about which to be very, very concerned.

#5112531 Society Demands That Examples Be Made Of Addicts: Thai Opinion

The War on Drugs is not working?

That's not an excuse to abandon it...its a reason to go harder.

Legalizing drugs is a naive concept, poorly thought through and usually motivated by a personal agenda.

Legalize mariuhana? Why not?
I never heard of anyone beating their wife or children after a joint?
I never heard of someone causing road accidents under the influence of Pot!?
Have you?

WebMD Health News

Dec. 1, 2005 - People who drive after using marijuana are nearly twice as likely to be involved in a fatal car crash.

French researchers studied all drivers involved in fatal car crashes over a two-year period and found 7% tested positive for marijuana, including nearly 3% who tested positive for a combination of marijuana and alcohol.

Although marijuana's share of fatal crashes is much lower than those attributed to alcohol, researchers say the results show that marijuana use, even in low doses, significantly increases the risk of fatal car accidents.

More Pot, More Deaths

In the study, published in the medical journal BMJ, researchers reviewed information on 10,748 drivers who were involved in fatal car crashes and took required tests fordrugs and alcohol.

Twice as many drivers involved in fatal car accidents tested positive for marijuana compared with a group of other drivers.

Researchers say about 2.5% of the fatal crashes were attributable to marijuana compared with nearly 29% attributable to alcohol.

The study also showed that drivers who tested positive for marijuana were more than three times as likely to be responsible for the fatal car crash. Researchers say the likelihood of being at fault increased as the blood concentration of marijuana increased.

I stand corrected on the "none"...
But this might be a good point!
"Researchers say about 2.5% of the fatal crashes were attributable to marijuana compared with nearly 29% attributable to alcohol."

The point is... that taking drugs while driving increases the risk of accidents?

#5066388 Explosion At Karon Hotel - At least 30 tourists injured at Phuket Orchid Resort

I've occasionally worked with the Thai Army as a consultant/technical adviser on some US made trucks over the past 10 years.

They've had this equipment for over 20 years. Their level of expertise is at the bottom of the barrel.

Basically they NEVER EVER change or check the oil, so eventually the engine seizes up. They then proceed to remove every single part of the truck, to "re-build" it, when all it needed was a new engine.

I love the country & without fail, everyone I've worked with are the nicest of nice people, but when I try to show them a way that is 100 times more efficient to do something, I get a smile & they just keep on doing what they were doing before.

Something is best NOT to be made public (like the Kennedy assassination). DSI is wise to lock up the files and grant no access, as the truth about the army (guardian of the nation) murder its own poor & innocent citizen in cold blood, is not going to comfort the relatives of the death. Our sorrow have pass us already, there is no need to open up the coffin to remind us about our past. Also, it might produce evidence that the army was really present on the MRT track, which is not acceptable to CRES (despite having video footage). Let all sleep on it. The truth is of no interest to anyone who want peace.
Hello are you on this planet ? What on earth are you talking about ?
Take it easy - he/she is just one more troll. Check the reputation. :)

Have you ever studied Buddhism? probably like the vast majority of Thai's the answer is NO

Buddha had a family etc. then renounced his family for the reasons we all know - you cannot argue that he had a wife - yes he did and what?  he renounced this way of life for a 'higher calling'.

Thats an Ego thing,a Mia Noi, must have a Sami Noi,Thai Males dont like being on the same level,Call the Bugger Sami Noi, he turns Blue. :D
