Database last edition 05/01/11

For anyone who reads the BKK Post's Database Section, apparently it ran its last column this Wednesday (05/01/11) and is to close.
Well, not quite perhaps. The only parts to survive are Wanda Sloan's The Sloan Ranger and App-shop which will appear in a new Life section.

Swiss Man Falls To Death In Patong

Swiss Expatriate with heart problems - Faints and falls to his death from apartment building in terrifying accident
Death of retired Swiss expatriate - Leans out from his 3rd floor balcony in Patong to chat to friend on the 1st floor - Slips and falls to the ground breaking his neck and dying instantly

A Swiss man fell to his death from his 3rd floor balcony in a terrifying accident yesterday morning at 09:45 am on the 7th September. Police Captain Pathaphi Srichai from Kathu police station received a report that a foreigner had fallen to his death from the 3rd floor balcony of an apartment building in Patong, Kathu district, Phuket. On going to the scene, the body of Peter Urich, 65, a former Swiss civil servant was discovered. He was wearing tartan trousers and no top and had a broken neck, arm and elbow. There were no signs of having been attacked and the body was sent for further investigation to Patong hospital.
Investigations revealed that after retiring, the deceased came to live in Phuket and rented a 3rd floor apartment with his Thai wife. Before the incident he was standing at the balcony and stuck his head over to talk to a friend, also a foreigner, who resided on the 1st floor. He then slipped and fell from the balcony to the ground below, dying instantly. His wife had warned him previously not to do this since he had heart problems which could lead to him blacking out, but he ignored the warnings and the tragedy occurred.
