I have just returned from the Thai Embassy in Jakarta with my new Multi entery o visa based on being married to a Thai, it was actually painless and the nicest people i have ever come across in a consulate.
Docs needed Application form with 2 pictures
copy marridge cert and birth cert if you have kids
Id card copy of wife
copy of Tabian bann
Copy of Bank statement was not asked for but i gave it anyway, you should show the ability to have 40k per month so a couple of Bank statements do the job.
Warning the Embassy has moved so address on the website is oncorrect, dont find out the ahrd way like i did new address is
Royal Thai Embassy
JL.Mega Kuningan Kav
E3-3 No 3
cost of visa has gone up to $200, dont do what i did and pay with IDR as in local currecny cost is 2 million IDR whihc actually works out around $224 USD
But all in all an ok experiance, alsos 2 days to process so if you put in application on monday you collect on Wednsday afternoon, so KL is a better option time wise
Just to add you need an letter from your wife asking them to issu you a visa

In that case you should not apply before November 3. So you have plenty of time. It is all about permission to stay unless you are talking about a new entry into Thailand (when visa validity would be a factor).

Gents
Thanks so much for all your help and advice much appreciated. quickest i can get to immergration would be monday as i have to get the letter from my embassy and my wife needs to get the Khor ror 2.
I noted in one of Marios replies that i can apply within the last 30 days of a permission to stay.
So just wanted to check though my visa expires on 21st Sept i actually have permmision to stay until 2nd December so i guess i can apply during that period of permission to stay?
At least that way i can get prepared properly without rushing around and having the potential of not haveing everything i need.
Thanks again guys

Thanks so much for your quick response, im thinking i may do the extension of stay, the 30 days option worries me a little.
Could you advise me as my visa expires on 21st September whats the latest i can apply for it, example could i do the application on the 20th September?
Thanks again

Not many reports about Indonesia, so can't answer if you will get a multiple there.
Yes, based on your income, confirmed by your embassy, you can get an extension of stay. But you first get 30 days, after which you have to return to immigration. If you travel frequently, you have to plan well.
But if you really travel twice per months out of Thailand, you might not need a visa at all if traveling by air. As a UK citizen you get a stay for up to 30 days each time you fly into Thailand and can extend this by 60 days based on your child/wife if need be.
