Uk Tax Residency; Govt Consultation Published
2011-06-18 07:56:21
The UK Treasury has published a consultation on establishing a statuatory residence test; http://www.hm-treasu...tax_updates.htm . The aim is to clarify the issues around whether or not an indevidual should be considered tax resident in the UK. After consultation, the test will be written into legislation and become law (and therefore start to be applied) from the start of the 2012 tax year.
Obviously it is still at the consultation stage and things may change but, on first reading , to me, it looks to be a vast improvement on the current situation (and not as draconian as some had suggested). It should allow an indevidual to establish much more clearly and relatively easily whether or not they would be considered tax resident for a particular year.

Discount For New Bmw 3 Series
2011-05-25 08:25:13
I am looking to buy a new/near new BMW 3.Am a little cautious because of the high (for Thailand ) depreciation of BM,s , so i am also considering pre-owned. i have 2 questions
1) Is there much chance of getting a decent discount off the list price for new BM,s ie rather than the token 50k?
2) any dealer recommendations (Bangkok or close)? esp where someone has had a good experience of negotiating a decent discount and/or a dealer with a good pre-owned range. thanks

San Pluem

I have been looking at a unit in San Pluem (to buy). While its not perfect, the location is good , close to town, market village etc. The build quality/unit design seems ok and, to me ,looks better than some other Sansiri developments i have looked at in HH . Any inside knowlege from anyone who lives there would be very helpful. The kind of concerns i have are the normal ones eg how good is the management of the complex? any major build issues with the units? whats it like to live there? proportion of farangs/Thais etc. Thanks in advance for any input. Post or PM is fine
Proposed Changes To Uk Private Pensions
2010-12-09 22:58:36
there are some quite significant changes to UK private pension rules being announced today. The press reports suggest they will come into effect from april next year. eg potential for 100% drawdown of the fund if you can demonstrate sufficient income from other sources.( this would obviously be subject to tax at your full marginal rate). I cannot at this stage find any info as to whether or not this greater flexibility would be extended to QROPS could be some interesting implications here.
