BANGKOK: -- After landing at 9.45pm today, Myanmar's Opposition Leader Aung San Suu Kyi plans numerous activities in Thailand in four days, including visits to Myanmarese camps and unconfirmed talk with Thailand's opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva.

The chairman of the National League for Democracy (NLD) and member of parliament for Myanmar's Kawhmu constituency will start her first day with a trip to Mahachai, Samut Sakhon, where tens of thousand Myanmarese migrant workers are. In the afternoon, she will return to Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok, to join the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum on East Asia.

On May 31, she would stay all day at the hotel to attend sessions and join the welcome dinner party. On June 1, in a plenary session, she will have a one-on-one conversation with Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum. At 11am, she will join a panel discussion on "Asian Women as the Way Forward". During the day, she will have a discussion with Abhisit but the time is not confirmed yet.

On the next year, she would head to Mae La shelter in Tak province. Meetings with ethnic leaders in Mae Sod and Cynthia Maung - the famous Karen volunteer who treats victims of Myanmar’s civil war, refugees and migrant workers on the border - to visit her clinic in Mae Sot.

On June 3, she would board her flight home.

#5177212 Thai Govt Called For Moving 2 Million People From Mountain Zones

Posted bobmac10 on 2012-03-30 15:35:16

the floods really frightened the sh#* out of everyone this time, and the economic damage to the economy might finally wake them up to the consequences of all the over clearing.
Yes the hill tribes are responsible for some but so are the generals and police colonels who have had access and ability to loot the teak forests for the past 50 years.
One thing is for sure, with expected climate change, the wet seasons could be much wetter and that means more floods unless they rehabilitate the headforests in the hills.
The idea of paying the hill tribes is a practical and cheap alternative to forced re-location.
I can remember the princess talking about the negative effects of overclearing thirty years ago, with demonstrations of clear streams running through pristine rainforests and muddy streams running through clearfelled areas.
It's incredible that they didn't pay heed to her wise words.
Money the root of all evil.

I think that the worst damage is being done by a few very wealthy people who are engaged in illegal logging and massive deforestation and who do not even live close to the forest environment.

As long as a high post in the administration is seen as an opportunity to make profit and as long as the paramount goal in life among the elite be to make maximum profit in order to buy stupid luxury goods (Mercedes, BMWs and such), there will be nothing hindering Thailand to become a wasteland in the future.

What about Burberry?

Sooooooo last year.

Yes true, but this is Bangkok, not London or Paris.

Burberry will be OK at about B12,000 a copy (genuine)

Must have their piggies smartly dressed and well equipped I suppose
Too bad they have their priorities all skewed.
Still have thousands of people uncompensated for last years floods, students about to be given cheap crap Chinese tablets and flood prevention measures still undecided. Oh well, T.I.T.

Another piece of filth off the streets.

Yeah, its very good but the problem is still have thousands more... Would be nice if some expat ex-policemen or who have some power or courage (Balls) make some group to catch this crazy people and give them some lessons.....

Just setup a young girl's fake profile on Thaifriendly.com and let see how they feel then if they meet some body builder instead of the young girls... Maybe will teach lessons for the rest guys too a leaked video about the kindly threatment...

No offense, just an idea, definitly will reduce the number of pedophiles very very quickly and they can organize with the local police after or take the guy to immigration.

From what I can see, the video shows the guy with the detector bowing to the "VIP" as he tries to scan him, as he does for all people. That is his job. Why do some think they should be above the law, especially when security and potential smuggling are involved? If you were the security staff, what would you do? If it were in America and many other countries, the "VIP" guy might well be arrested, or even shot.

#4965755 AFP, Thailand Investigate Claims Of Fake Rescue Of Children From Sex Slavery

Posted jayceenik on 2012-01-09 10:15:58

From my early days in LOS I remember that Belgian woman who rented a big house in BKK, then hired a few young unemployed girls to stay in the house and pretend they had been "rescued" from Patpong when sponsors to her fake charitable organisation would show up.

A Belgian journalist got suspicious, investigated her and revealed her scam.
She had to abandon her profitable activity and rerturn to Belgium.
