Bike Thieves In Bangkok

2012-01-22 08:20:58

Had my Africa Twin nicked. All these security gards 24/7 in a gated condo village and then this!

Q1: Is there theft insurance available?

Q2: Are they parting out stolen bikes or may I catch some b*stard riding my bike?

Q3: Is there a point in posting a reward?

As bad as this is, it is also an opportunity to get a new bike!

Spar Parts Dealers Are Overwhelmed These Days

2011-11-25 13:50:01

Howdy,

it has been almost 3 months -and my garage cannot procure a clutch. And on the internet, I only found a "150 cc Serpico".
Am at work and cannot post a photo of the bike. It's a sports 125 cc 2-stroke single. The clutch is not properly separating
engine and gear box which is annoying in city traffic.

Does anybody know where to source clutch plates or a complete new clutch?

The weather has been gorgeous up North. Come to Chiang Mai, rent a big bike and have a fantastic time!

The Mindset Of Some "Mechanics"

2011-09-13 05:40:02

A few weeks ago, I bought a 125 cc 2-stroke sports bike from a Thai owner.
Soon, I got to know 3 bike repair shops... One of them is run by a "mechanic"
who cannibalizes customers' bikes for parts and who will mess with a carb even though he was asked to leave it alone!

That particular issue was a leaking fuel hose.

The carb was fine, as was the oil pump.

But Somchai had to mess with the bike, install some homemade parts and probably turn down the oil pump etc.
^^^
With hindsight, I would

i) pay to get it sent to a trusted mechanic
ii) not let some unknown garage keep it over night
iii) buy new or rent!

What is going on in some Thai mechanics' minds? Don't they know what they are doing? Do they hate farangs? Are they destroying an engine "for a laugh"? Or to make an extra 30 Baht with some manufacturer's part which they sneakily replace?

Moreover, why are bikers' lives put at risk by car drivers who want to get somewhere 3 seconds quicker?

Just wondering.

Maybe asking him to leave the carb alone made him mess with it?

What is this routine, wanting to replace original parts with some modified junk?!? :realangry:  They talk about it before they even touched the bike! Maybe they have a sixth sense and know when they will have to modify a bike with their parts?

Bikers, beware!

Cracks In The Plastic 2-Stroke Oil Tank

2011-09-04 17:59:42

Not sure if somebody moved my 125 cc bike and then dropped it?
The oil tank was leaking. And it hadn't the previous days.  :annoyed:  And then my pleasant surprise:

A bike repair shop in Nan had a spare oil tank and with a change of the gear box oil, the bill came to 190 Baht :jap:

Ride on!

Nsr 125 - Preventive Maintenance And Tips?

2011-08-01 20:28:21

Hi All

I'm getting this NSR to get about town. Will change the brake fluid and air filter and spark plug and give it a full service. Is there anything an owner might wish to recommend?

Cheers, Chris
