Recent Eye Problems

2011-10-25 19:44:53

Has / is anyone having eye problems of late? Symptoms of allergy or infection?
My eyes starting to itch and burn badly 2 days ago and i just thought it was the usual allergic reaction to a dust or pollen spore. I took an antihistamine today but the burning and dryness (and redness) is just as severe, that it has me suspecting it has been a water borne infection issue . Obviously now thinking it may well be down to contamination of the water supply. Just wondering how widespread this may be?

What To Do With Monthly Savings?

2011-07-18 19:56:26

Currently just banking 25000-35000 bht each month into Bangkok Bank. Never been too savvy with money/investments to be honest, so hoping you experts out there might suggest some (low/med risk options)
Thanks all.

Management Co. Switched Gym Ac Off.

2011-06-15 18:56:21

Hi all,

As the thread suggests, the management have recently (past month) decided they will save money by switching off one (of two) of the AC units in the gym. This is not so bad till you want to run, with temps around 30C.

My partner raised this with the condo office only to be told things would stay as they are unless they received more complaints. She was not happy with this response so emailed their main office asking if this has been agreed by committee, and why they haven't informed people etc. (we are new to the building (renting) so not savvy with laws/rights etc.). They have yet to reply but she was met with a sign in the gym today stating the same - obviously there idea of a response! She now feels doubly irritated and feels they are being disrepectful, by not replying to her complaint. I'm not too happy also but know how Thais can be when a stand-off is created, so if possible would like to avoid this as i doubt we will come out on top if we try and take them on.

I have no idea if this has gone through any formal channels, but i doubt it and wondered what peoples' thoughts are regarding the best next move. I know it's not the end of the world but as my partner correctly stated, we would like the same facilities and conditions that we initially signed up for!

Maybe petition the gym members? This is bound to antagonise them though.  Any thoughts/opinions apprecciated.

Any Sleep Apnea Specialists Out There?

2011-05-04 23:02:38

Recently been diagnosed with mild obstructive sleep apnea.  (Quite low on the index).
Went to see a specialist (take with pinch of salt if you like as i do these days  ) Anyway, he recommended a nasal spray to begin with,( after i told him i had nasal airway issues).    I then asked if i could use this long-term ( which now i know is a def no-go). So, I  then asked 'so, what next ? 'and he said, 'maybe another nasal medication' :annoyed: .

On further questioning he suggested i trial a CPAP machine. Well, i have spent 3 days not sleeping and with more acute blocked sinuses !  My instincts told me that my problem was not so severe to warrant this treatment so i did some rersearch. Literally every resource i find recommends CPAP only for mod-severe apnea and mild cases involve 'lifestyle changes' . i don't even snore or am overweight. I'm at the point where i think Thailand's finest have not quite got it right and i shouldn't even be ruining my sleep further with this machine!

(Should inform readers that this has been part of my quest to find out what is causing my daily chronic fatigue over a 2-3 yr period - i'm essentially covering all bases including TV members suggestions and recommendations. This has been my latest project - so to speak - but i believe the quest continues for now )

Any experts out there to inform otherwise?

Cheers,

Luang

Lab Test Ranges

2011-04-21 12:20:28

Anybody have knowledge regarding the (often significant) reason hospitals/labs can have such differenes in their test ranges? It can cause confusion as i have just found out.

Here's a scenario for you: I very recently had a test carried out at St. Louis'  for (x). The result came back at 51 with their lab range of (30-65), so would seem normal, so this part of me is ok...right?
However, when tested at Samitivej a few years ago for the same thing the result was 49 (even lower than now)  but their range was (0-40) so considered High and not ok!

When i mentioned this to a doctor (not working at either of these institutions) that if i compare the recent (St. Louis) result with Samitivej's ranges then the result is still high, he said, 'no. no you cannot do that' and have to go with the range of the testing hospital. Ok, but what is confusing me is this, if i had chosen to be tested at Samitivej instead of St. Louis then my result would be exactly the same (51) would it not? (they use same units). And therefore considered above their range and High.

So, with one hospital i am fine and healthy but with the other i am not and sick?!  What am i missing here?

A confused Luang :D

P.S. Sheryl and FBN.........Help!
