Have you tried the combination that the safe originally came with when new? If the batteries were dead for some time the safe may have reverted to the original factory combination.

If you have any expectations to visit Thailand again, then consider NOT exchanging the money and simply hang on to it for the next trip. This presumes a "tourist" amount of money and not something larger like wages, profits, house selling, etc.
Not only do you have the cost of doing the exchange back and forth, the Thai Baht has held its value against the pound / dollar quite well. Relative to the dollar, I have earned a better return holding Baht paper than an interest-bearing account in the USA. Apparently the Thai government is living within its means and not trying to inflate the currency to pay its bills......

I wonder if the real idea is to have the building located where the Army can defend it from the demonstration-of-the-week?

I wonder what sort of things get dumped in the water, and the impact that might have on someone eating the fish from such waters?

Let's put this in the context of living in Thailand vs. overseas.
Not in your lifetime nor the lifetime of your children will there be a half-Thai Member of Parliament (MP).
But your child can come to America at any age and become a member of Congress after becoming a citizen (which is easy here).
Therein lies the social contrast, based entirely on race.
