Have friends from all walks, all ages, and some farang/farang couples, some farang/thai (farang female/thai male and farang male/thai female).
When my bf is on a boys night out and girls ask him if his gf is thai or farang, he said they go sort of quiet when he says farang lol. He recons its the "unknown entity" factor. I dunno..haha.
Positives for us personally, is having had experience and somewhat understanding of what it is like to living in Thailand single as well as with Thai partners. I would say we are both pretty content with that experience. Pluses would be no language barrier (both native English speakers), so jokes, sarcasm, etc are understood. No major cultural clashes, lack of understanding, or misunderstandings. I enjoyed all those factors with my ex Thai partner, so its not a bad thing, but i have to say, i do prefer the ease of conversation and fluidity etc of no language/culture barrier.
Hmm..not sure what else to tell you tbh...

I also dont find it funny when im happily having coffee some place and another westerner whos been done over due to his bad decisions, decides to give me his tale of woe...and how he used to be down on western women but now he thinks differently and wont date a thai woman again..and blah blah blah.. (failing to realise it was more likely their choice in woman, not the nationality of the woman that was the problem...)
I dunno, maybe i look like i want to hear it.
Ive ended up finding out of the way coffee shops.

Anyway - in its simplest terms the answer is: Greed and lack of care for customer service.

One should also check out the new Tops at Central Rama 9 as it has its own refrigerated cheese room including large blocks of cheese. Essentially the same selection as Centralworld & Central Chitlom but there is something nice about walking into a room full of cheeses from all over the world. (similar to being a kid in a candy shop...)

What possible difference would the name of a country make to its general economic wellbeing and the state of its business environment?
Thailand has image problems from the past.
Sex tourist haven, tsunami, financial crisis, land of scams, land of IP theft, floods, corruption, riots, coups, etc.
Siam is a beautiful word. It evokes romance and exoticism. It is short and sweet, perfect for a corporate rebranding ... of a country. It's old. It's new. It's everything.
All the old baggage, the hooker jokes, just don't work the same with the word Siamese instead of Thai.
So I reckon it could potentially (if marketed cleverly) create a boom in more quality tourism and foreign investment. People who hadn't thought about Thailand recently would need to pay attention. Instead of a change from something elegant like Burma to something kludgy like Myanmar, you get a change from something kind of dull and out place which sounds like it was invented by a fascist dictator, Thailand (land isn't a Thai word) to something sexy ... again, in a good way.
Bendix, I realize you are Mr. Logical Left Brainer and probably won't buy any of that, but there's my case!

Marrying a student is a thousand times easier/better than marrying a gal living in Thailand.
1. Visa/green card situation is much better. For the overseas gal you will have to wait 6-10 months before she can even come over.
2. She is already familiar with our culture and will feel more comfortable
3. She comes from a family with some money if she's going to college here
4. Better English language skills
5. She already has a desire (or somebody in her family does) for her to be in the USA
6. You save a TON of money marrying a girl that's already here
7. You save a TON of hearthache marrying a girl that's already here
8. You have the ability to date and live together in the US while you're working, and there's no commitment.
Biggest advice for dating a Thai in your area (I'm talking the OP's area) is to not make any enemies, hurt feelings, or say anything bad about them. The Thais talk about you when you're not around and word will get around that you did XYZ or you only like her for sex or whatever.
Also if she (a foreign student) starts getting serious with you, then she is probably looking (expecting) to get married. So make sure you have good communication with her and she knows what you are thinking. She could be expecting to get married, and then living in the US with you. But if you string her along and at the last moment tell her you don't want to get married, well she is going to be pissed off and then have to go back to Thailand forever with a broken heart.
EDIT: Whoops, I forgot OKC. Even more Asians there numbers wise, but Stillwater has more Asians per capita.

Paying bribes just increases the cycle of corruption.
But that would mean that entry into the top schools would be based on academic competition rather than wealth, and that's just not the "Thai way" is it?
