#5340427 Pattaya'S Nicotine Ban Up In Smoke

Posted Jayman on 2012-05-28 22:24:34

Maybe as part of this publicity period they will actually publish what the rules are for everyone to read.

Interesting that we can have a news story about this without actually publishing the rules that the story is based on.

Quote

In 2007 a national ban was announced on cigarette smoking in stadiums, on buses (for the first time), children’s playgrounds, sports facilities, libraries, public parks and even public telephone booths.  There was little publicity given to this ordinance which seems to have been ignored, perhaps because of its ambiguities.  Nobody, for instance, defined what a park or sports facility actually was. Categories appeared to have been copied from United Nations’ international drafts and protocol.

Then, in 2008, the biggest move to date was made when smoking was declared illegal in all bars, clubs and restaurants whether air-conditioned or not.  In Pattaya, premises were advised that smoking would not be permitted even in outdoor seating areas.

Praise be low season, finally. It came very late this year, let's hope it lasts longer ..

Correct, the busy season seemed to last through April instead of March. There are less Russians now so that is probably the reason. I don't know why, but there are more Indians this month- holiday there?

yes there are hoardes of them at the top end of beach road near the Holiday Inn and Amari
going out in huge groups on speedboats.I just assumed rather than have an empty
hotel room hotels are offering giveaway rates to Indians?
**********************************
Yes,the Indians have taken over Markland Hotel and the ones such as Amari. I ran into a crowd of them in Family Mart. the place was like a museum to them. Every food item being examined as if they were anthropologists.

#5318481 Turning Your Laptop Into A Wifi Basestation.

Posted necronx99 on 2012-05-21 09:58:29

I recently have gone from having ADSL WiFi with a proper WiFi modem router which was great for providing wifi to my phone and ipad to using a 4g dongle plugged into my laptop directly.
Great for the laptop but this left me using the 3g connection on the phone for providing access for botht he phone and the ipad. Not the best arrangement.
I tried a few options via command line and programs to enable WifI broadcast from my laptop but had no success, most likely due to the age of the laptop and its drivers not supporting the operation.
Then I tried a program called conectifyme. With a few minutes of mucking about I had a broadcasting wifi signal with wep security up and runnning and both my phone and ipad could connect with no trouble.
I have no connection to this company and am only using the free version which is all i need to set up the WiFi. Bells and whistles on the paid version, but if all you want is to set up local wifi the free does it. If you are looking for a solution like this I recommend it.

At least Thailand is working with a good travel product.

Or Iran's....."It's not all shi-ite"

Posted TungnaaTom on 2012-03-06 19:19:26

"Rohani was in charge of accommodation and procured vehicles..."
Leila Rohani obviously was not doing her job procuring vehicles!!!!
The bomber got so pissed off trying unsuccessfully to hail a cab that he blew himself up after lobbing a grenade in frustration,
thereby blowing the lid off this mission - PUN INTENDED!

#5074264 Pushing, Shoving And Line Jumping

Posted LuckyLew on 2012-02-21 10:22:06

It is just the Thai way
They think nothing of doing what you have mentioned
They think nothing of cutting in line
They do not think it is necessaryto say thank you if you help them or hold the door open for them.
They do not think theyshould hold the elevator for you, in fact they are more likely to press the close door button
What many cultures would see as being polite is common practice here, you just have to get used to it .... or ...
In my case, I have adapted, I purposely make usre the door closes behind me if there is a person behind me
I smile at them as I press "close door"
If they cut in front of me, I accidently step on thir ankles .... with a smile

I don't understand this news item.  By this I mean that I don't understand what impact, what-so-ever, this "reporting" requirement would have had on the bombing/terrorist attack in Bangkok.  Until the actual event, these animals had every right to roam around Thailand because they had committed no "known" crime.  If I am missing something, please enlighten me.

You are missing the need for the concerned authorities to look like they are doing something. "They are watching at us, look busy!"

The point were people should be screened is at the immigration desk, whatever follows is simply closing the barn door after the horse bolted.

#5062702 Bomb Expert Trained Iranian Suspects: Bangkok Police

Posted TheGhostWithin on 2012-02-17 09:17:06

Does it not disturb anyone else, that "foreigners" are being labelled as the culprit? So far with the evidence presented to the public, only IRANIANS have been implicated in the events and the lead up to the events. To label "foreigners" as the culprits, is a little unfair. Is it not discriminatory to screen ALL "foreigners" and treat them with suspicion, when only persons of a single country are involved?

I would love to see the reaction if we were to treat all "middle eastern" people with suspicion after the September 11 attacks on an official scale, realising that many of us still do have suspicion of persons from certain countries whose central religion is that which shares its' homelands with the Tora. "Foreigners" also warned the Thai government of these events 1-2 weeks in advance, and were asked not to disturb the smooth flow of tourists into Thailand.
