#5327280 Thai Mental Health Dept Issues A Warning Against Exhibitionist Websites

I found a Japanese website doing the same sort of stuff. The only warning I needed was hearing the key in the front door lock as my missus came home from work early.

#5329430 Lady Gaga Fans Gush, Critics Blast Fake-Watch Tweet: Bangkok

Posted xthAi76s on 2012-05-25 06:13:45

LMAO!!  Score one for the home team.  Great comment.  I'm starting to admire Gaga now.

Many were angered by the singer's remark on Twitter, where she has 24 million followers. Some fans called it offensive, insulting and bad for the Thailand's image.

What is worse for Thailand's image is ... all the stuff that happens in Thailand like the sizzling illegal goods trade that has been going on long enough (say the past 2 decades) that it is world renowned.  Thank goodness she didn't mention anything about the sex trade or this little country would have been up in arms.  They are so overly sensitive here about image.  Here's a tip: if you are worried about your image, then CLEAN IT UP.

These comments would tend to come from two kinds of Thai people.

1) the moneyed, English-speaking, partially foreign educated Thais who MUST refuse to believe that Thailand is still in the dark ages so that they can justify their position in what they want to believe is a modern, fair, competitive and open society.  They certainly do live in a Thailand completely different form most of the other population.

2) the terribly educated but deeply nationalistic Somchai who probably can't tell you one important recent event about any country outside of Thailand that doesn't involve consumerism.  This Somchai is very deeply proud of most anything Thai and seems to find it very difficult to find anything in the Kingdom to criticize.

"We are more civilised than you think," tweeted DJ Suharit Siamwalla

Actually, no, you are not, and, if you actually knew what most of the world thinks of you, you might REALLY be upset.

"She came to our home, but instead of admiring us she insulted us,"

Well, it is what it is.

#5319627 THAI President Piyasvasti Gets Golden Handshake

nice guy, if he wanted to stay in power he needed to be a bit more Peua Thai orientated, competency is irrelevant in this post.

#5320902 Thaksin At Odds With Reds Over Call For Justice

Posted looping on 2012-05-22 06:44:14

"Should reconciliation happen, I will have an opportunity to serve my fellow Thai citizens," he said.
"If you don't want to reconcile, I don't mind living abroad. But you should think who would benefit from the continuing fight because only arms merchants will become rich."

A thinly veiled threat against the ENTIRE country, roughly translated:

"Let me back to run the show and you will have political stability through my dictatorship. Refuse and I will carry on dividing the country through 'direct action' only more so, until you are on your collective knees begging for mercy."

Question is, does he still need the reds to accomplish his goal or have they served their purpose?

Unfortunately Taksin thinks he can return to his former glory days, but he is deluding himself. The smart man would have accepted his situation and moved on. If this whitewash ever happens it will be the terrible travesty; it will say to the world that one rich man can buy way out and make people think Thailand has no ethics or principals. A great miscarriage of justice?

#5321672 Bangkok-Chiang Mai High Speed Rail Ready By 2018: Transport Ministry

Posted Reasonableman on 2012-05-22 12:49:52

Doesn't a feasibility study try to determine WHETHER the project is feasible? Perhaps announcing the completion date is a little premature.

Some of the land in the railway corridors may need to be resumed, I guess... and equipment purchased... that's a lot of concrete and rails... 6 years, huh? ... hmmmmm

#5322605 Thai Students Win Prizes At US' Top Science Research Contest

Posted culicine on 2012-05-22 18:13:11

I'm a little confused - take a look at ALL of the winners - most, if not all, of this research must have been carried in advanced laboratories - possibly government or private Uni labs. Some of the chemical analyses needed is too advanced for school labs. All credit to the students, but it looks to me they were trained by university lecturers or other professionals in sophisticated laboratories, as most schools could not provide such equipment. Would be interested to know some of this background, rather than speculating. Good luck to them in their chosen careers.

#5321946 Australian Man Faces Death Penalty In Malaysia

Posted EarthAlien on 2012-05-22 14:11:49

This whole "war on drugs" is total BS. Another invisible enemy to dupe the mass Plebian society and control them through.

Yes drugs can be harmful,.. but so can cigarettes, alcohol and prescription drugs that the governements of the world push en-mass and with zero conscience or consequence!

As long as "illicit" drugs remain illegal it translates into the fuelling of a multi billion (trillion?) dollar industry for everyone from the cops, lawyers, judges, prison systems, pharmecutical companies,...and the list rolls on.

Enough of this insane lie-ridden BS and the condoning of judicial murder of scapegoats for an insipid hierachy of capitalist and power hungry supremacists that do zero for the genuine advancement of the human population of the world!

Tell the truth,... and the truth is that something stinks in Demark and it ain't just the cheese!

#5312668 TAT In Bid To Tackle Problems Faced By Chinese Tourists

Posted Unkomoncents on 2012-05-19 08:14:50

Thailand is also, clearly, an excellent place for people to consume endangered animal parts.  Beautiful beaches, beautiful women, and tiger genitalia: can you ask for more (if you're from Guangdong)?

The biggest problem faced by Chinese tourists? The fact that when a busload of them descend on the River Kwai bridge they haven't grasped the concept that the road is not an extension of the path and all 50 of them can't wander about in the middle of it oblivious to any motorized traffic

As my car dealer has confirmed, the general Thai understanding of  the word "Maintenance" is repairing when malfunctioning / broken down.
