Agreed, I'm coming to Thailand on holiday soon and have been trying to find out some facts about what's happening, but every thread soon seems submerged (sorry about the choice of words) under politicking.

Also, while I respect everyone's entitled to their opinions on what the govt should have done, do we actually have any experts on massive-scale civil engineering, disaster management or the like posting on here? I'd actually be very interested in their views.

Also if you want to copy the text to translate it, they've put some javascript on the page to disable selections for some reason. You can get round this by turning javascript off in your browser and reloading the page. You'll probably want to turn it back on afterwards (google translate doesn't work fully without it).

Ah, there is news on SRT's site, just no direct link from the home page. If you use the Site map link there's a link to the news index from there.
http://www.railway.c...s/main_news.asp if that helps anyone else.

There has been 3 different threads in the last 10 days all asking the same query........a simple click to page 2 would give an obvious answer.

If I told you that I was flying with TG to Hat Yai on Nov 7 who would you suggest I contact for updated info? (Which obviously between now and then will change)

Sorry, I don't find your unwarranted sarcasm helpful. There are 3 threads on page 2 asking about trains to other destinations. The SRT website has no obvious link to news (which would be precisely what I'm looking for) and the one page of news quoted on the 3rd thread is in Thai.
