I've been told that the cheap nickel crowns don't fit as tightly as the precious metal crowns and will not last as long; some good dentists in Bangkok will not even offer them for this reason.
As above, before undertaking serious dental work, it's always good to get at least two opinions. Dental Design also has a lab on site and specializes in crowns and such.
Myself, I pay the extra and go for the precious metal crowns.

"I don't know where you are from, but for me, it wasn't too expensive to get more pages added to my passport."
Americans now pay US$82 for a set of extra pages.

SuperRich posts their rates online, and as you can see, the rates at the Head Office are slightly better than those at the branches.
You'll note the Head Office spread buying-and-selling US$100 notes is 30.80-30.92 or about 0.4 percent. I'd be surprised if you found a much narrower spread anywhere else.

I think the restaurant's a sore point.
Are they closing it for two or three months while they're away? If so, that cuts some of the ties that would bring them back to Thailand.
Further, folks in the restaurant business would have little trouble finding under-the-table work in the US, so their line of work is a red flag.
I suspect they'd have much less trouble if they planned a short, two-week vacaction in the US, instead.
