#5345455 Yellow Shirts Kick Off Anti-Reconciliation Bill Rally

Posted rixalex on Today, 16:08

PAD no vote thing was a cop out in my opinion. If they had conviction and balls they would have set up their own party and asked people to vote for them. To do so though would have potentially exposed how little support they had, and they didn't want that, so they went the "no vote" route.

#5344908 Most Thai Students Afraid To Work In Other ASEAN Countries: Survey

Posted animatic on Today, 13:28

And the denigration of proper English Teaching in the schools has made this even worse.

When the teachers are too embarrassed to really learn the subject, because that means they must admit they don't know it, and the administration backs that up, is it any wonder that the students can't speak proper English?

Of course the best through simply adequate English speakers, are put under increasing strictures about teaching English here, for both face saving and Nationalist/Jingosit reasons. Visa requirements are made more difficult, teachers jobs and paperwork being made more difficult to accomodate.

People who have succesfully taught english here for years,
are now removed because they don't possess a certificate of level,
that the people removing them could NOT attain themselves.

And no there exists coherent national standard of English standards put in place by native English speakers of any flavor. How can someone write a standard with minimal knowledge of the subject?

When people with little or marginal actual skills at a language are the ones to sign off on localized standards and would lose face by consulting a Native Speaker, is it any wonder the students 2-3 levels down the food chain have fear of using the language?

A sad state, when bar girls speak better English from daily osmosis with customers and the occasional 1 month course, than University Grads with a passing grade in english.

So, it sounds like what is upsetting you is that considerably more weight is put on compensating the victims than actual punishment here as opposed to where you are from.

And since rich and powerful pay off people all the time to minimize or avoid legal problems even in your home country, I am guessing it may be getting you worked up because it is done in a more obvious way  here.

By the way, not to get off topic but I think OJ is a bad example (especially when you use it as an example to tell me something I stated in the post you are quoting) as the victim's families haven't got diddly and I believe anything that came or comes in is still going to pay the lawyers. In that case, neither crime not punishment was handed out and the only people who really made out were the lawyers.
The paying of money to police to avoid criminal prosecution is corruption.

That the rich and fatuous can do so here sticks in my craw, yes, but don't make assumptions about Oz. Google Marcus Einfield for a supreme court judge who ended up with 3 years for trying to avoid a $77 speeding fine.

Victim compensation is fine, and they are entitled to it if the perpetrator has assets. Paying it does not entitle the perp to a "Get Out of Jail Free" card. Try not to confuse the 2 issues.

Yeah I did the same thing with Terry Waite and John McCarthy. They soon disappeared the bastards.

But Terry Waite did do a good cover version of "Bicycle Race"

Not a PC but I remember at the age of 12 inserting the Space Invaders cartridge into my Atari console and thinking " Technology can never top this!"
Space Invaders had the exact same impact on me when it was first introduced on Nokia phones; a truly amazing game

I see this kid going totally eccentric inside his pop bubble, & in ten years he's living in a big house shaped like a giant glass swan, with his pet koala bears & gold statues of Rick Astley in every room.

Nice imagery.

Echo other comments, if I'd been beaten up by this twerp, I wouldn't make a song and dance about it either, next time JB makes a stage entry are they going to play the Rocky theme now.

#5337553 British Fish & Chip Shop In Thailand.

Posted theblether on 2012-05-28 04:55:00

I was toying with the idea of sending a container of fish frying ranges to Thailand, and opening a chain of British Fish and Chip   shops. The initial menu would be.....

Traditional fish and chips in batter
Black pudding
Fritters
Deep fried steak pie
Deep fried mince pie
Deep fried smoked sausage
Mushy peas
Deep fried haggis ( once we catch it )
Deep fried pizza, 8 varieties, including pepporoni, salami, spicey chicken, marinara and others
Etc etc

I've have an arrangement in place to have 2 pallets of British made pies, puddings etc flown in every day.

I'll open up in the tourist areas first, then see what happens. The shops will be licensed, selling cider on ice etc too.

I need to know, do you have any menu suggestions? What kind of cider or beer would you like? And would you enjoy a good deep fried pizza at the end of the night?

I can send in kebab machines too, and side orders like chicken pakora and mince samosa would be available too.

So what do you think? Would you enjoy a deep fried pepporoni pizza washed down with magners and ice?

Let's not blame the Thai people for the sins of Hitler who "borrowed" an ancient symbol for his own use.
I blame people for ignorance, be they Thai or otherwise.

Reminds me of the craze a short while after the World Trade Centre attack of people wearing t-shirts with Osama Bin Laden's face. Perhaps that was more to do with insensitivity and stupidity though.

I recall being absolutely gobsmacked after 9-11 to see a family walking down the street in KK and both the kids ( boys aged about 11 and 8 ) had matching t-shirts with a print of the twin towers on fire and the words "Bye Bye" printed across the bottom.
Beggar's belief , it really does. Can't think how they could possibly have trivialised the tragedy any more. What is going through their minds?!

I'm getting very tired of people who keep coming into positive threads to moan and whine, or take pot shots at others. If you want to be miserable, log off and be miserable by yourself, and let those who want to enjoy their time here do so.

Is this moderation?

Can I confirm that if we want to be happy, forum rules allow us to do so in public, but if we are sad, miseable or cynical, we are not allowed to do so on this forum?
I don;t think this was made fully clear on the forum rumles, but I am sure many would like to know this, rather than joining me on a bus with cliff richards

SC

I think the point being there are plenty of bashing threads where a negative approach appears to be almost compulsory, and supported by multitudes of likes, without taking one of the few positive threads off on yet another we are not all happy in Thailand misery tangent
