In Topic: German Man Still In ICU After Dispute With Phuket Tuk-Tuk Driver

Unbelievable people continue to visit Phuket. Travelers too stupid to do any "discovery" before traveling anyplace have little excuse for finding bad trouble at the destination. That said, Phuket is a dump, has been a dump for several years now. Plain and simple....... STAY AWAY FROM PHUKET! I now have my customers here in China sign a release if they insist on booking into Phuket. They are 100% responsible for any and all occurances during the duration of their time there. More often than not, they decide to change their plans and travel to another place.

Bars are the way to go.

Wrong! Bullion is by far the only sensible way to buy gold.

My reasons for leaving:

deadly driving practices here and just the amount of traffic gets worse each year ( 8 people I know have been killed in RTA's here in  Phuket)

Never had an accident here. If you are a good driver, you adapt to the driving style here, and know what reckless thing the driver in front is going to do, before he even knows himself. Driving here is not for the faint hearted, or people who aren't very confident experienced drivers.

the proliferation of bar girls and beer bars selling sex is spreading on the island

Not where I live.

high cost of living in comparison to the service or guarantees  you get for your money

Phuket isn't a great place to live if you need to count pennies. Having said that, property, utilities, fuel etc, are all vastly cheaper than the West, as is food and drink.

visas and work permits (don't get me started)

Every three months get to go on a family trip to explore a different country. Fantastic.

xenophobic Thais and their open dislike of foreigners

Xenophobia is everywhere you look. In general, English people are highly racist and xenophobic, and are getting more so by the day with the influx of immigrants.

lack of basic rights (as a foreigner we don't really have any in Thailand)

Don't need them. Can own everything I want in my wifes name.

corruption pervades every fabric of this society

Give me some examples of how that affects your daily life. It doesn't mine.

murders (the amount of execution type murders is on the rise)drugs

Never had as much as heated argument with a Thai on Phuket, let alone come close to being murdered.

pollution - I find Phuket and Thailand to be filthy

Outside of Patong I don't find it that bad.

   dishonesty

Who by? Who do you associate with regularly that's dishonest? You must be gullible.

lack of intellectual stimulus with any Thai that I have known

You've only known stupid people. Whos fault is that.

a general "what's in it for me" attitude and no sense of community

I have good friendly neighbours, always there to lend a hand. Especially the Thais. You obviously lived in the wrong place.

Your Phuket and other peoples Phuket aren't one and the same. Everything you have pointed out, is your interpretation of Phuket, nothing more. Why the desire to share it with everybody. Therapy?

hahahahahahahaha  In 2 years at most.... you will be singing the same song!!!  Phuket  is a dump. Keep trying in convince yourself it's not. So funny.

Newbie here. I just can't understand  what type of journalism is this?

Journalism 101 would be the who, what , when and why.

The article just list 9 dead cops and how they died. In the States, its called an obituary.

Anyway, 7 more hours and I am boarding a flight to Thailand

Sorry to hear that..........

I have ben coming to Thailand for many years and see the decline of the LOS almost on a monthly basis. THe end for me was the Red Shirt incident. I haven't been back since and found wonderful alternatives to Thailand vacation. LOS is forever dead now, such a shame.
I operate a large tour business in China. I send about 40 tourists a month to Thailand. At New YEars this goes up to 200-300 families. The Chinese love to go to Thailand. But now I am able to switch 75% of my clients to alternative destinations. Many of them were repeat vacationers to Thailand. The clients reactions to me are very positive after they took my advice to avoid Thailand and experience better places for the same cost. I have no complaints for any client once they come back and compare their experience to their past trips to Thailand. My business continues to grow as more satisfied clients tell more friends about my business.
I always tell people to avoid the trouble, scams, and danger associated with Thailand travel. I am sure I am not alone with many others in this industry. Thailand has shot itself in the foot with it's lethargic approach to tourists and their safety. LOS is NOT is olny game in town. It must really be suffering now from the lack of tourists coming there. Too bad I say.

I myself go to my alternative places to spend my money and time. Imagine Samui 10 years ago, and I enjoy this now where I go. At 10 year old prices as well. In fact I'll be there in a few more weeks for a 15 day holiday.

Sorry Thailand, you are all washed up. Straighten it out now, or the tourist numbers will be getting a lot worse!
