Eu Currencies Problem
2012-04-18 10:20:18
My daughter will shortly be visiting several EU countries on a conducted tour. Although accommodation and meals are included she will need to use local currency for out-of-pocket expenses. The itinerary includes countries that use the Euro as well as those that do not such as Czech Republic and Slovakia. Rather than lose out on the exchange rate by taking Baht, I plan to provide her with GBP Sterling notes (of which I have plenty available) in the hope that she will be able to exchange these as required. Can anyone advise whether this is the best strategy? and also where is the best place to make an exchange? She will be travelling mostly by train or bus.
Tax On Uk Pension
2011-11-29 00:17:37
Hi All,
I recently visited the taxman in the UK and was surprised to learn that under the terms of the double taxation agreement between the UK and Thailand, someone who is non-resident and receiving a pension is entitled to have all the tax deducted by the Thai authorities instead of paying tax at source in the UK.
My question is - is it advantageous to do this? Presumably the pension would be paid gross but all allowances would be lost. Apparently there is not much in the way of allowances from the Thai tax authorities but the tax rate is 7% against 25% in the UK so the difference may greater.

Residence Permit And Immigration Queues
2011-09-06 23:29:11
Hi All,
I have read before in these columns and elsewhere that a residence permit holder is able to use the queue for Thai Nationals. However, I have never seen a farang in one and never plucked up the courage to try it myself. Has anyone ever actually done this? or seen it done?
If the answer is yes, does it apply to departure and arrival or just arrival?
TIA
Nam.

Password Rant
2011-05-29 23:50:41
I can't believe that I am the only one with this problem. My computer is truly personal. I am the only one who uses it. No-one ever sees me using it. Many times each day I need to type passwords and I am quite conscientious about password security and never store passwords but what I want to know is - WTF am I not allowed to see what I am typing when there is no possibility of anyone else seeing it? I am old and doddery and make a mistake more often than not but I do not know this until I press Enter. Then I have to start all over again and perhaps make another mistake. Sometimes I even have to enter the user name again for example with TV login.
So, my question is this: can anyone direct me to a program that will allow me to see what I have typed instead of a row of dots or, if the row of dots is a must-have, provide another window so that I can see whether the characters are correct? I do not want a key-logger, I just want tosee what I am typing.
TIA.
