Nok Air Offline?

Am I the only one having trouble getting through to Nok Air via email?  They set up a special email address for flight changes after moving from Don Meuang to Suvarnabhumi, but that keeps bouncing back.  And now their normal reservations email, on which I made a group booking, is also bouncing back.  I'm overseas and may just have to call them to try and make the changes, but usually find that sort of thing easier in writing.

Nan Province Border Crossing Into Laos

Has anyone taken the road from the Laos side of the Nan province border crossing (Huai Kon) to Luang Prabang?   Photos I have seen are of 4 wheel drives fording streams, but a Luang Prabang travel agent has told me the trip can be done in an ordinary vehicle.  However, the agent also recommends an overnight stop in Oudomxay, which suggests that the 150km (or therabouts) distance from the crossing to LP cannot be travelled that rapidly.
Unless the agent is just looking for extra revenue.  Any intrepid traveller input welcome on the condition of the road and the approximate travel time.

Converting Currency Versus International Atm Withdrawal

I go back to Australia from Bangkok once or twice a year and have learned that it is much better to convert baht to Australian dollars in Thailand rather than back in Aust.  The difference in what you can get here in Thailand as against what you'll get hopping off the flight in Australia 9 hours later is significant.  But does anyone know how it works out if I just use my Bangkok Bank ATM card (via Cirrus or Maestro) for cash withdrawals once in Australia, or is there a whopping fee?

Recommendation For Eye Specialist/Hospital

After living in Bangkok for 12 years, I've moved to Nan, so Chiang Mai will be the best option for medical services.  I don't even know the "best" hospital in CM, but particularly need an eye specialist for a three monthly check for recently diagnosed glaucoma.  If someone could advise please on a hospital that might fit the bill.  I'll do my own web search for CM hospitals, but the names will mean nothing to me.  Tks.
