Women'S World Cup Final - Sunday Night/Monday Morning
2011-07-14 14:22:39
Monday 18 July at 01:45, USA plays Japan in the Women's FIFA World Cup final. I'm just wondering if any bars in town will be staying open late on Sunday night to show the game? (Is it even being aired in Thailand?) Any info is appreciated...thanks!
Not Just Another "What'S The Best Internet In Cm" Thread
2011-01-11 17:43:36
Hi all,
There have been quite a lot of threads lately on the best internet available in Chiang Mai. Unfortunately, none of these threads have addressed my own peculiar situation, so here we go again.
I live in a strange, 3G wireless-deprived bubble east of town just inside the 3rd ring road (and when I say "strange bubble," I mean that even my neighbor 3 houses away has decent 3G reception, but for some reason, I do not. WTF!). The closest town to me is San Pu Loei. I would dearly love to get fast internet again, so I am forced to turn away from the wireless options (airsticks, etc.) and get wired.
Here is what I know so far:

Here is what I know so far:
- AIS 3G airstick does not work.
- AIS 2G airstick works just fine, but is not fast enough for what I want (television shows!!).
- 3BB says they do not service my area. No joke - they showed me their coverage map and there is a tiny little circle of exclusion drawn around my village.
- My mobile phone, which is through True Mobile, cycles incessantly between Edge and 3G while at my house, even though it has perfect 3G service a few houses away from mine. I know, right?!
- My rented house does not have a land telephone line, and I would prefer not to get one. So internet through a phone line is my least-preferable option.
- There is a coax cable line to my house, although I currently do not have any cable television service. Understandable, as I do not own a television.
White Songtaew/Truck From San Kamphaeng To & From Cm
2010-10-13 17:23:08
Hi all,
My mom is coming to visit in a couple of weeks, and she absolutely refuses to ride on my motorbike (She fell off of one once, so I understand her fear and I'm not going to try to force her to try it again). Fortunately, just 2 days ago I moved and now live within bicycling distance of the white truck route along the "tree road," or as I call it, highway 1006, that goes from CM to San Kamphaeng and beyond.
I'm not sure I will get a chance to ride the route myself before she arrives, so is there anyone who can help me with more information? For example:
What time does it start running and end running?
How much does it cost? I've heard 15 baht.
Where does it go in CM? I've heard it goes to Warorot Day Market, but I've seen the white trucks there parked in a couple different areas, and I've also heard they go to Chang Puak Gate.
Any answers, plus other useful information you have to share, is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Good Haircut In Chiang Mai
2010-07-16 14:53:31
Hi Ladies,
I need your help and advice! I live in Chiang Mai, and have gone to get my hair cut twice at H Hair Colour Salon on Huay Gaew Road. They look pretty high-end, and they speak good English. Cost for my cut is 350 baht. The first time I got my hair cut there I had to go back because she cut my layers too long. (So I guess I've been there three times, technically, for 2 haircuts.) Last weekend it was haircut time again, so I went back to the same stylist. I figured she would get it right this time, right? Welllll, no. This time the layers are too long again, and it seems like something more is wrong with it that getting the layers shorter won't fix, which is why I haven't gone back in to get the layers cut again. Basically, it looks BAD. And you know how it feels when your hair looks bad
I know it's not a language issue, because the stylist speaks great English. Maybe Thais with chin-length hair like different styles than farangs with chin-length hair? I must admit I've seen a few women (and men!) with shorter hairstyles that I think are quite hideous!
So now I've been having a bad hair week which, coupled with personal problems of the "rejected by a boy" variety, have made me feel really ugly for the last several days
But sob story aside, where do you get your hair cut in Chiang Mai? And can they fix my hair??? It's chin-length already, so I can't exactly go much shorter...thanks in advance everyone!
