In Topic: Rabies In Thailand

rabies vaccines for most mammals do not need to be done every year but every two to three years; howver in areas that have a low compliance level it is usually done every year so that poeple 'stay in the loop' of getting the vaccine and not forgetting altogether. as for people, same same; get blood titered to see when u have to get next vaccine. and as for tetatanus - it seems that 7-12 years or more is the norm at least here in israel unless u work with horses or in a zoo. anyway u always get a booster when bitten.
dog bite wounds have a high incidence of infection since they are small holes externally and lots of damage to tissue inside the point of the bite. that goes for dogs that have been bitten as well.
and getting preventative vaccine does not mean u  automatically dont need a back up shot.  and u can start the whole rabies series within 24 hours of exposure unless the bites were on your face or neck (most bites are on legs or arms).
and we had several cases of rabies in north israel last year among dogs that were registered as being vaccinated the same year (unlike the states, here it is mandatory for yearly vaccine and it is enforced. we have lots of rabies here. and quite a few cats , including one incident where a soldier died from rabies after being scratched by a army base feral cat.

and it is not just pups that get rabies although the age u mentioned is within the time frame of 'just weaned' pups that dont have mother's antibodies anymore from her (hopefully) rabies vaccine that they get from nursing, and the 6 month time wehn  most pups get their vaccines of rabies (at least here). but any age can have rabies. btw, buffalos can also get rabies. rare. we have had donkies with rabies. and antelopes. adn with them, it is often dormant for up to 6! months.

definately  matters from where the vaccine comes from, and which batch numbers etc... and rabies vaccines MUST be refrigerated. the vaccine is sensitive to heat. (at least the ones we used here. i had to carry them in a special cooler maybe there are others that dont need that). and surprisingly enough, the dosage is the same for most mammals.

appropriately enough, just saw a sign on our kibbutz bulletin board that there is a rabid fox hanging out in our public area and to keep our dogs leashed (yeah right)...

check with korat zoo, their vet might know someone in your area... rep vets are far and few in many countries unforutnately...

what do you need to know; i raised sulicatas for 10 years in our petting zoo, we bred them, hatched their eggs etc.

everyone behave: it is very good practice to farm out the older bitches or retired studs since a good breeder will NOT keep breeding his bitch when she is too old as most puppy farms do. this person sounds like a breeder with a plan, planned breeding and home placement. often done also for mares, goats and other animals that were breeders or stud adn retired.
not all breeders are puppy mills. and most puppy mills dont care about rehomeing their property.  this is often a good way to get a pure bred dog, and possibly like many breeders with retired bitches, some spay, to make the bitch a good home dog and ensure that the new owner wont turn her into a breeding machine with a back yard stud.

as for the person 'barking' about the cold. huskys adapt like any other dog to conditions its born in to, for the most part. dogs with scrunched up faces suffer more than a full coat dog in the heat.  and for reverse, ihad a boxer from finland, no fur, and he loved the cold and snow and suffered here in the heat, my bitch born in the desert, had no problems in the heat and hated the cold. just like people. our lhassa apsos are cut back to survive the heat here. huskies can be shaved down (some folks are against that some are for it).
huskies in teh heat just develop thinnner coats as people who show their dogs know.

frankly thats how it works here also: one street is shoes, one is hats, one is food , all the kiosks have the same stuff; but most locals buy from the same place... its called customer loyalty. u tend to buy from one place because when u dont have money on you, you can bring it the next day, theyl give u a percent discount 5 + 1, whereas whenits a drive by customer the price stays the same... in any market u will find five stalls all selling kitchen plastics. i will often go thru all ot them and bargain, the one who gives me the best price, or more pleasant manner, or the stuff is s lightly better or they have the colour i want, they get my business. why is that hard to understand. ? obviously the mall mentality of westerners is not the same as middle east or asian shoppers (who are not tourists). also if u go to one stall and they are busy, u move on to the next one. i go to the market and buy from the same stalls for years, right next to stalls that have the same fish, or meat or chicken or cheeses, or socks, or ripped off dvds.  i know their names, they know mine, i can ask them to save a special item for me on the side and pick it up next week....
tourists are fly-by-night buyers, but not the bulk of money for most places like food stalls. people going  on the same route every day will tend to buy from the same bamboo sticky rice place or the same shwarma stand, most likely at the same time also.the stalls know their customers (extra peppers, no hummous, always wants a diet coke, always complains that is is cold or burnt.)
nothing wierd about that.
ah, jsut realized that others have pointed that stuff out already...
