How do you keep a ups working? My second one stopped working after a few days, now im done buying them at 2.5k baht a pop.

find one that can use external batteries, and hook up large gel cell batteries to it.
we have one, and use 34ah cells, can run our computer and lcd tv for about 22 hours
OP, sorry if this is a little off topic.
Surangw. I have been looking for something like this, and have asked in the computer forum, but the info is always vague, at best. Can you provide detail: Brand, model, cost, where to buy? I have checked several spots on the island, but can’t seem to get info on anything that will provide more than a few hours.

OK, back to the topic.
Easy to do if you don't mind getting your hands dirty ( opening up the ups)
find a good brand that will put out a bit over the max you will need ( the one we have is used APC brand, 1.2 kw max)
open the unit up, ( the one we have was from a suirplus sale, had dead batteries inside, so only cost about 1000 bht ( $35 usd)
add some wire ( same gauge as in the unit to the batteries) and find the largest gel cell batteries to use in place of the ones that were in the unit)
when the ups is plugged in to power it will keep the batteries charged, when the power goes out, it will run whatever you have plugged into it as long as you don't exceed the power rating of the ups.
also, as a side note, if you can find a ups with 12 v internal battery, it makes a good portable inverter for use in a car.
A good place to find gel cell batteries is a place that sells home alarm systems.
if you decide to use car batteries, be sure to keep them ventelated, they outgas when charging.
