Lots of foreigners sell there homes abroad and settle in places like Issan with their ex bar girls. They are welcomed into the home and during the milking process are convinced that they are now Thai. Some of them begin to resent the foreigners that have a good time in the bars, these individuals are quite vocal in certain forums.
Its during this milking process when they delude themselves that they have done humanity a great service in rescuing this poor girl from her terrible fate. They start to really hate their own people, something Thai people never do.
This " Thai'er than Thai" delusion is very common and some start to taken themselves far too seriously. All very well until the money runs out and they go home broke with their tails between their legs. I think thats where the term "Land of make believe" comes from.

Given the choice of A.  a moaning old queen.  B.  wood elephant seller. C.  German refugee from October fest in a speedo.  D.  Beach road babe.  I think I’ll take D.  

Personally I switched from Beach Road to Uni girls making tuition on the weekends years ago.  I only do this out of a desire to increase educational opportunities for the underprivileged in Thailand and not out of any sense of impure behavior.  

Although the Beach road area would be classed up a lot if the Uni girls worked there apparently they don’t feel safe doing so.

In any case, my feeling would not be different even if it was mostly male prostitutes. I would STILL want to be able to hang out on the water without being constantly solicited.

Anyway, this isn't about stamping out prostitution. This is about making the beach promenade walk a PLEASANT thing for all kinds of people. This is a beach resort city, for Satan's sake, which is attracting ALL kinds of people now, and that is a good thing. A stroll on the beach promenade is a great feature for urban beach resorts throughout the world, but I daresay Pattaya has got the most whores on the beach. Would you take your family with children there the second time after you saw all those whores? Go go bars/beer bars/freelancer bars are an entirely different thing, you can go in there or not. You can walk down Soi 6, or not, but if you go to a beach resort city and can't take a beach promenade walk, you do indeed give credible ammunition to those with PDS (Pattaya Derangement Syndrome).

Sorry Jingthing.  I would have gone back and checked but I am boycotting the gay forum without you posting there.

Oh... Jingthing - why don't you go and have your evening strolls along the beach in Jontien, instead of moaning about hetrosexual prostitution on Beach Rd. In Jontien there's plenty of families, and hundreds of gay men cottaging on the sand that you can wink at - there's nothing more irritating than a moaning old queen...!

The girls were on Beach Road when I first came to Pattaya 27 years ago, and no doubt long before that. They would not show up day after day, night after night if they did not pull customers. There is obviously a demand, part of which is perhaps fuelled by the high bar fines.

Downtown Pattaya at night is full of foreigners drinking in bars, gogo's and eyeing the girls. I doubt very much that the majority of men find any problem with the Beach Road girls.

Pattaya is NOT a family destination. Jomtien maybe, and perhaps the authorities should prevent whores plying their wares on Jomtien Beach Road, which is now starting to grow.

Leave Pattaya alone. It always was a cess pit, and will remain one, Beach Road girls or not.!

Baht buses, Indian tailors, traffic congestion, vendors and the regular fairs on Beach Road are far bigger problems in my opinion.Plus of course dual pricing everywhere you go!

Motorbike theft is rampant and checks are also to see if the rider is the true owner.
As suggested, a copy of all docs and passport/latest visa is easy to make and keep with you.
Thais are also checked for weapons and drugs so while inconvenient, perhaps, the road blocks are legitimate.
Anyone bullying cops anywhere is none too smart IMHO and certainly it's not wise here.
If your docs are in order, then you will normally be allowed to proceed with a polite word from the policeman.
I hear all these complaints but have never had a bad incident with a policeman here in over 4 decades. If you are relaxed and polite, they generally are also.
Other police are doing other things so lighten up about time wasting of those on road checks.
