I am an Asian. This topic made me sit up! Hence, I would like to comment on it - please do not get me wrong, but correct me if I am wrong...
"being culled because of the threat they pose to tourists"
What about the animal lovers associations etc...???
Some countries "cull" humans as that species are a threat to those countries.
Yeah thais are racist. Move on.
Really? Can a normal Thai (or any other citizen from an "undeveloped country") travel freely around the world? Are visas given over the counter? Where?
We are guests here and always will be.
Only in Thailand? Other countries make foreigners feel at home? With all perks...
Poisoned fresh meat works much better.
Is this done "Internationally"? An accepted practice? Really?
It would be a start if the white folks would get it straight in their own minds: Does their white skin propel them towards the top of Thailand's social strata or does it make them a target for "racism"?
Pray, tell us... Where would our Black, Yellow, Brown or what ever color skin propel us to in your "white folks" countries?
Yes.... we all are the same. When it happens to "ME" it is wrong. Strange... so many many complaints about Thailand and yet so many people are dying to go there... and once we are there, should Thailand change to satisfy us?
Is the rest of the world worse, that so many "foreigners" are choosing Thailand with all its "FAULTS" to settle down?
Who should Thailand satisfy - Foreigners or their citizens?
I feel there is something radically wrong somewhere... (or maybe it is only me)

Thailand has Nice weather, beautiful women, wonderful food, more freedom then in the west, beautiful nature, not too many rules and regulations, relaxed pace of life and I could go on an on.
Life in the west sucks big time as we all know.
Of course Thailand has its areas that have room for improvement but the plusses outweigh the minuses by far !!!
Have been here for 18 years and still love it !!!

Yes, Thailand's border is a whole lot more secured than UK and there are no terrorrists and criminals here. This OP has to be a joking

Sadly they're not, otherwise they'd keep out the tens of thousands of low value chavvish foreigners who wander around acting like they're better than the locals.
That's what you mean, isnt it?

The way I see it, in this age of information, people who come to live in Thailand should know what problems they can encounter, they should know they can't own land, know they have to obey Thailands visa laws, know that when they come here they are very restricted in the employment stakes. ( though many work illegally when they could work legally in their own countries and many other countries in the world, but still they stay in Thailand and complain about the lack of employment opportunities, it's unbelievable !! )
I don't know many financially secure Farangs in Thailand who are genuinely unhappy, but they have the choice of moving on if they don't like it, simple as that.
The cynical, bitter and twisted farangs are generally here because they have done all their money in and stay here cos they can't afford to go anywhere else and start again, trapped in a loveless marriage, living in a hot house in what used to be a ricefield surrounded by people who they can't communicate with and who eat strange smelly food, breeds cynicism perhaps ?
Bad preperation, poor planning, ridiculous financial management ? Don't blame Thailand, blame yourselves.
If I was as cynical about Thailand as many on ThaiVisa appear to be, I'd be gone in a heartbeat, then again, I do have a choice and CHOOSE not to.
Farangs make the really big leap of leaving their own countries where they have rights and privilages they can never have in Thailand, why the @#@# do they do it when all they do is sit in front of a PC all day complaining about the place they chose to come to, and can leave anytime they like !!!!!
Cynical, Bitter genuinely unhappy miserable Farangs can be found all over The Kingdom, why they still remain in their own personal nightmare if they have the choice to leave, utterly amazes me.

#3806929 Farangs Calling Thai'S Racist...

I keep seeing farangs calling Thai's "racist" and I'm just wondering if you realize how ignorant you sound. This thread probably won't stop you from using this word, but allow me to explain why I see it as being rather pointless. In fact, your liberal use of this word actually cheapens its true meaning.
We from the west understand the literal meaning of this word because we understand the context in which it has been used. Most Americans will know exactly what this word means. We know what African Americans had to deal with during the days of slavery. And what the Native Americans dealt with when Europeans first arrived. And the Chinese during the early days of the old west. And the Japanese during WWII. The list is endless. These are shameful days in American history and we are not proud of what went on in years past. But what does this word mean to the average Thai?
I can say with certainty that it does not have near the same sort of meaning to the average Thai. Normal Thai's just have not been indoctrinated with western history. They don't know about slavery in America. Or Apartheid in South Africa. Heck, most don't even know about Nazi Germany and what happened to the Jews. Even if they know about it, they don't understand the true horror that went on. You can't blame them. Reading about this sort of stuff as opposed to being immersed in the culture that practiced it is not the same thing. So calling a Thai person a "racist" is pretty close to meaningless.
Racism in Thailand? Perhaps it exists. But honestly, if it does, "farangs" are certainly not the real victims. If anything, discrimination exist more on the class level, rather than race. Thai's treat Japanese and Koreans exactly the same way they treat farangs. Is that racism? It can't be because all Asians are of the same race.
I've been posting on another thread that discussed the use of the word "farang." It's simply a descriptive word, nothing more, nothing less. To the average Thai, the word probably denotes wealth and privilege more than anything else. Yet, some farangs are offended by this term. Perplexing. Farangs will complain about what they consider "racist" policies, but yet, their presence here in Thailand already demonstrates how less racist Thailand is—if you want to use that term—compared to most western countries. Thai's would have a much more difficult time immigrating to the US without mitigating circumstances. I'm sure you all know this. Can a Thai guy just go to America on a retirement visa? I don't think so.
In order for the term "racist" to have any sort of meaningful impact, there has to be an historical context. We know what happened to African Americans during the slavery days, so it's clear that racism is a horrible thing in America. But what sort of discrimination have "farangs" have to deal with in Thailand? Dual pricing? Land ownership? Visa runs? You're comparing that to slavery, lynchings, and mass extermination? I'm sorry, but that doesn't even compute. If it doesn't to me, it certainly wouldn't to the average Thai.
I've met many more truly racist expats in Thailand than racist Thai's. Farangs that really believe that Thai's are racist should seriously consider why they are here. I certainly wouldn't want to live in a place where I'm hated. I think that deep down, farangs that call Thai's racist know that they're not being truthful. They think that if they say it enough, it would shame the Thai's to make a change. Has it worked? Not even a little bit. You may want to reconsider your tactics.
