#4044714 Why US Pornmakers Remain Unfazed By Thailand’s ‘Tough Stance’ On The Exploita...

Posted slim on 2010-11-24 15:20:29

Quote

When some girls discovered this they went to police for help

Yeah - right.

"Excuse me officer, I was just browsing illegal porn sites on the web and discovered to my horror I feature in one of the websites. I admit I had paid sex with this man and I admit he paid me extra to have us filmed but only on the understanding that the footage wouldn't be available in Thailand. I appreciate that I have committed at least 3 arrestable offences under Thai law but please could you arrest him anyway so my honour can be satisfied".

Must happen all the time.

Yeah, I agree the U.S. is a poorer nation. More tax breaks for the small rich elite is not going to make it better.

I agree! The top 1% are only paying 37% of all personal income taxes while the bottom 50% are paying a whopping 3%!! This injustice must not be allowed to continue!!

In addition, the bottom 50% own businesses that hire others. My own boss has a small factory employing 10 people and he does it all living out of a refrigerator box in an alley down off Main Street! While those rich 1%-ers just collect money out of thin air! HOW IS THAT FAIR!?!

but it's not going to be made better either by spending money you don't have

" all of that money is simply not going to magically materialize somehow "

think of the money that could be directed towards pensions if USA left Afghanistan now
and stopped all worldwide military actions

...and stopped ALL foreign aid, cut back on State Department and Congressional boondoggles and expenditures, Froze all federal hiring at present levels with 5% reduction annually, stopped paying 22% of the UN costs, got out of the IMF with that 18% contribution, closed the Energy Department/EPA/Education Departments, Congress stopped ALL earmarks, cut the federal budget back to 2006 maximum, sold the Post Office and Amtrak to the highest bidder, closed ALL military bases in Europe and charged Obama's campaign for mileage on Air Force One.

And these are only starters.

Romney hardly could be considered part of the radical right.  In fact, that's why the radical right won't vote for him:  he's not one of them.

C'mon, I was an Obama supporter.  He has failed miserably in every single area, most especially upholding the constitution.
If Obama had truly failed to uphold the constitution, why weren't impeachment proceedings brought against him by what most would consider to be a hostile House of Representatives?  Why hasn't the SCOTUS overturned any laws he and congress passed?  Yes, the indidividual mandate will come before the court this year, but most observers think it could go either way.  So I'm not sure how you're able to state unequivocally that he hasn't upheld the constitution.

As I'm pretty sure I've stated here before, I'm not an Obama supporter, but IMHO, he's done a pretty good job with the hand he was dealt.  Especially with  the unemployment numbers.  Take a look at the months before he took office and what has happened since his administration took over.

BTW, this chart doesn't include last month's numbers that came out last week.

Instead of focusing on who was president, the chart should show who controlled Congress. This job loss chart coincides well with when Democrats took control of Congress. The Republicans had majorities in both the House and Senate until Jan 2007 (Nov '06 election) after the Democrats won majorities in both and held that majority for four years from Jan 2007 until Jan 2011. To make matters worse for the Democrats, for two solid years they held a Super Majority in both houses of Congress from Jan 2009 - Jan 2011. That means the Reps didn't have enough votes to stop anything the Democrats wanted to do. The Dems have had control over the Senate for FIVE years. The Republicans only took control of the House in Jan 2011. Interesting that when the Republicans (with help of the Tea Party) won in the November 2010 election, it gave such high hopes to businesses that just one month later job growth started again.

So, Obama is flat out lying when he blames Republicans in Congress for blocking him during the first 24 months of his presidency.

I can't find the link now, I wish I could.  On Business Insider Dot Com yesterday someone made THIRTY different significant points about how the employment picture is incredibly worse than it was 5, 10 and even 15 years ago.  It was f'ing shocking.  This story is bullshit.
Oh, it really is horrible. But no politician has the power to radically change the fundamentals at this point. The expectations have been realistically lowered.

Of course they've been lowered amongst the cognoscenti, but they tell lies repeatedly to the the electorate/proles.  You may think that's clever politics but is in fact obscene.  It could lead to revolution in due time.  I know you can't conceive of that but maybe it's because you've  not  studied history enough and lived in relatively affluent times.
The best hope for America's future remains Obama, not the radical right wing! People are already adjusting to the idea of less affluence and no guaranteed hegemony just being born American.

Socialism only lasts until other people's money runs out.
Obama's budget projections with wildly optimistic GDP growth rates still has over $ 1 Trillion deficits for the next 10 years. Estimation is for $15 Trillion in additional National Debt in 10 years, doubling the Debt.
ObamaCare will cost many times more than the wildly optimistic, and wrong, "savings" that were initially projected.

Obama has done a massive power grab to the Executive branch of the Federal government.
1) Student loans program
2) Obamacare
3) Obama SOTU speach: “The executive branch also needs to change. Too often, it’s inefficient, outdated and remote. That’s why I’ve asked this Congress to grant me the authority to consolidate the federal bureaucracy so that our Government is leaner, quicker, and more responsive to the needs of the American people.”
4) Executive orders to force business to provide "free" items to a class of citizens
5) Recess appointments when the Senate is still in session
6) GM and Chrysler "takeover" by the Federal Government, the violation of law with regard to bond holders

Obama's statements about the Constitution are disturbing.
While he says he wants the price of gasoline to go down, his policy makers are driving it up.
He said he wants government regulations to help business create jobs his chief regulation creator is making more regulations to stifle business.
He's also being effective in raising the cost of electricity, especially that produced by coal.
His use of crony-capitalism is hideous, the "green" technology funding continues to be a huge waste of money.

It's a shame that the progressive movement has set the US on the path it is on, it fails when it's tried time and time again.

I don't mean any offence by this, honestly, but it's my opinion in you read someone else writing the claptrap you just wrote you'd rip them apart mercilessly.  C'mon, I was an Obama supporter.  He has failed miserably in every single area, most especially upholding the constitution.  That's not to mention his lies about the economy and wars. He's responsible for killing THOUSANDS of people. I know this is just sport for you, but suck someone else's dick why dontcha?

#4395198 Open Farm

Posted WatersEdge on 2011-05-02 11:00:43

I am entirely in favor of open source collaboration toward a better farm.
I didn't coin the term "open source" but since the day I first read it, it has invigorated me.
The continual stir of this forum frankly amazes me,
that it brings meaningful discussion day after day
when it would seem that all the possible topics would be worn out.

I'm at the ready to design the energy efficient irrigation systems.
Saving or Wasting Energy can actually make or break an entire operation.
Thailand farming is nowhere close to potential utilization of water resources.

For dramatic example, go on Google Earth to Portales New Mexico and can eastward into the Texas Panhandle.
I'm an American farmer who grew up in the hay field....and even so, the sheer magnitude of what I saw took my breath away.
This is not American Magic....it is viable in Thailand, today.

Having a 365 day Fully Irrigated year versus a 180 day Rain Dependent year
is a dramatic advantage for a land that has no frost.
While there is not a one size fits all solution,
there are simplified common principles that are easily tweaked.

My tiny farm is now idle, sitting ready for lack of funds,
but the principles of fence to fence water is easily applied without a visit.
Send me the Google Earth boundary path of your property,
and I can do a pretty good assessment from the virtual flyover.

We go over the same items repeatedly,
but to generalize once more,
there are huge open niches in Thailand farming
for the man who is willing to sweat and endure brain strain.

tell me about it. i've got roughly 3,000sq ft of lawn, so that "10 or 15 minutes" from each place i stand and water with the hose, added up equates to the time it takes me to drink two large bottles of beer. it's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.
That is the most relaxing thing for me in the afternoons, pure heaven.

#5003748 Monacled Cobra To Kill Or Not To Kill

Posted Tropicalevo on 2012-01-25 10:08:02

The recycling truck arrived this morning to collect their goodies.

Loud scream and a few seconds of panic. One of the younger cobras - just under a metre long (presumably from the big sucker that lives in my garden) was hiding near the stacked boxes.

The recyclers and two of my staff watched it slither off a few metres and then carried on working. No hassle. No shotguns No machetes.

Normally a snake will only attack if....

It is threatened or cornered
It is protecting its food
It is protecting its young

Snakes are not naturaly agressive (unless they have had too many beers Posted Image )

#4968482 Two Tier System

Posted maccaroni man on 2012-01-10 10:53:20

this is sort of on the same subject but not, i do believe that in the long run the places we check off our list of places to do business with,  will lose money in the long term but typically the locals dont trend to think that far ahead.  a good case in point.  i had a fuel station near my home and filled my truck 1x per week, one day i needed air in my tire and i knew he had a compressor because i used it b4 but he, the owner did not want to bother that day and refused to air my tire.  i have never been back and since then we have added an suv to our motor pool, both filled weekly so that translates to 3k baht plus or minus per week or 12k a month /144k yr x 9yrs; more than a million baht of fuel sales his failed attitude cost himself.  Reality is; he is happy without my business  and probably does not miss it, as his business has grown and is in a brand new modern facility now and i am happy giving my money to someone else. IMO  It comes down to, happiness being a personal choice. If we dont like the service, prices or attitude just do business elsewhere and be happy
