#5329430 Lady Gaga Fans Gush, Critics Blast Fake-Watch Tweet: Bangkok

Posted xthAi76s on 2012-05-25 06:13:45

LMAO!!  Score one for the home team.  Great comment.  I'm starting to admire Gaga now.

Quote

Many were angered by the singer's remark on Twitter, where she has 24 million followers. Some fans called it offensive, insulting and bad for the Thailand's image.

What is worse for Thailand's image is ... all the stuff that happens in Thailand like the sizzling illegal goods trade that has been going on long enough (say the past 2 decades) that it is world renowned.  Thank goodness she didn't mention anything about the sex trade or this little country would have been up in arms.  They are so overly sensitive here about image.  Here's a tip: if you are worried about your image, then CLEAN IT UP.

These comments would tend to come from two kinds of Thai people.

1) the moneyed, English-speaking, partially foreign educated Thais who MUST refuse to believe that Thailand is still in the dark ages so that they can justify their position in what they want to believe is a modern, fair, competitive and open society.  They certainly do live in a Thailand completely different form most of the other population.

2) the terribly educated but deeply nationalistic Somchai who probably can't tell you one important recent event about any country outside of Thailand that doesn't involve consumerism.  This Somchai is very deeply proud of most anything Thai and seems to find it very difficult to find anything in the Kingdom to criticize.

"We are more civilised than you think," tweeted DJ Suharit Siamwalla

Actually, no, you are not, and, if you actually knew what most of the world thinks of you, you might REALLY be upset.

Quote

"She came to our home, but instead of admiring us she insulted us,"

Well, it is what it is.

#5177279 Why Do Some People Moan About Phuket And Others Don'T?

Posted iSabai on 2012-03-30 15:54:29

In no matter which ‘incarnation-du-jour’ the OP appears, it’s always the same MO with these almost troll-like threads. Starts them to wind folks up, then preaches the same drivel over and over.

Ask questions to provoke opposite opinions, then react to those opposing opinions by trying to convince all and sundry that they only disagree because they are either moaners, maladjusted, hanging with the wrong crowd, or not in control of their lives because they chose to live where they’re not happy. Blah blah blah... B-O-R-I-N-G!

Seems to me that asking questions to induce expected responses, just to argue about them, is the same as arguing with oneself. Which suggests one is actually trying to convince oneself. Which also suggests there may be some insecurity issues involved.

And for the record, I’m happy in Phuket, I realize there are downsides, I realize there are upsides. What works for me may not work for others. What I am willing to accept and willing to overlook may not be the same as for others. Up to me, up to them. End of story.

#5138129 Pm Yingluck Orders All Budget Airlines To Fly From Don Mueang Airport

A month ago -, outbound to Phnom Penh on my residents permit, the Immigration officer was so fascinated by it that he closed the booth to all people  behind me. . There then followed a 10/15 minute friendly discussion as to how I managed to obtain it.

Later whilst boarding, the same Immigration office was looking for me in a fluster. He had forgotten not only to stamp me out, but had not recorded any details on the computer, and only had my picture.. Profuse apologies for bothering me followed

At CMULI (before their current debacle, of course) we were able to get an ED visa for 30,000 THB (one year) tuition with 4 hours of classroom instructions per week. That aspect seems perfectly legal as far as Thai immigration is concerned. Why is Payap insisting on at least 15 hours per week of instructions and a tuition of (my rough estimate) at least 70,000 THB per year before providing ED visas for foreigners learning Thai? Based on the info on their website, even Walen is able to provide ED visas on class time and tuition similar to what CMULI used to offer. Why can't Payap?

70,000 at Payap? That's a lot! Walen is charging 24,960 Baht, cheaper that CMU and Payap. Those who still do not like Walen, please visit and talk to our staff, see the school, take a free class, talk to our existing students and after you will be able to make a more informed decision.

Walen School - not the cheapest but the best value

You disgust me, using a situation that has wrecked peoples lives to promote your own business.  I bet you were rubbing your greedy little hands together when you heard about what was going on a CMU.

Man, I'm trying to help you! What is your problem? Some of you paid premium price of 30k and got screwed! Our price is only 24,960 Baht. You do not know me, I am rich as I am so some more students in Chiangmai will be welcome but will not make a huge difference to the performance of the whole school. I am a businessman, of course I will be promoting my business, I would be an idiot if I did not. You see all the banners on thaivisa.com? Do you see any from CMU or other schools in Chiangmai? Businesses like ours help to run this forum, otherwise you might have to talk privately about the situation with your friends. Please stop giving Walen hard time. I provide first class service and will continue to do so.

What happened at CMU is sad and I am not happy about it,  are you judging people by the way you would think in the same situation? When you say greedy - is it really? I offer prices lower than other schools and helped to drop the prices for the whole industry, not long time ago standard price was 28,000 Baht. I really don't know if that is greedy. Maybe you tell me. Also for your information I have not got my money back for the building of the Walen school in Chiangmai, have you ever visited? both floors? no expense spared.

Walen School - offering competitive prices!

I'm happy here.

I've read your posts and you certainly don't seem to be. Are you being honest with yourself?

Yes - I can honestly say I'm happy, HOWEVER, there is nothing wrong with pointing out some of the "negatives" that exist here for the expat.  Some seem to think Phuket is heaven.  It's a great place, but, it has it's "issues."  Nothing wrong with pointing some of them out on a forum.
