For a person who is obsessed with reducing risk, Thailand seems to be a very, very odd choice for a place to live.

There is this big movement on the Thai Twittraverse right now about how some Thais fail to perceive what Thailand's good at: being the brothel capital of the world and the fake goods capital.

If you can read Thai, I suggest you all head over to Twitter right now the debate is just epic and LOL.

Reminds me of a time past in a  more unregulated universe (usenet) when a friend, one of the "net-legends", once half jokingly responded that the way you said "I love you" in Thai is "haa roi baat".  The Thais online at the time, one of whom became one of the most influential Internet technology leaders in Thailand, were so offended that they let loose some really bad jive that eventually led to a major libel lawsuit in the UK.  Some things appear to have changed less that others since those crazy online days.

It is 1:00 AM in Chiang Mai and traffic is now light and there are countless foodstalls, local eateries, and even a few night markets open and you are asking about who delivers?  Just why are you living in Chiang Mai?

In Topic: Odourless Durians To Hit The Market

Duran can taste very good (after one adjusts to the smell), but it often is over ripe or not soft enough or something that makes it less than great. I usually only eat it when it is at its cheapest -  like this time of year.

I too find that the durian has a very narrow time window when it is ripe for eating and all too often is under or over ripe for my tastes.  But when you do open one up when at its prime it is absolutely delightful. I think the issue with smell is grossly exaggerated by those with an overdeveloped sense of smell. But for the average person the aroma is quite tolerable.  Since smell is a large part of the taste equation, I doubt this modified variety will be an improvement.
