Come on, dude. That's a cheap shot. Do you have any idea how much their parents have done for them? It's the least they can do.

I think their pimps have earned the chance to put their feet up, don't you? You'd have them work right into their 30's? Clearly your mother didn't raise you right. You're not going to please anyone with that attitude. You'd be useless in Silom. You've clearly got some issues. No offence to your Mother, I'm sure she did her best. But she clearly failed at being an effective parent. She teach you to act in your best interests or something ridiculous like that? That's child abuse.

She should have raised you right. You should have been raised to please people; and then maybe you wouldn't be so unpleasant.

Read the facebook post and his other statement again.  He's been pretty consistent.  He was stabbed by the bar owner's girlfriend and smashed in the back of the head with a beer bottle and mug.  He showed pictures with all the stitches to back it up.  Not that fishy actually.  Most of the bar girls I know carry knives.  He came out with a pure victim story later, but I'm sure that was for the benefit of the police and to give weight to his counter-claim.

Having spent a few years in thailand drinking in more then a few bars, it's unfortunate that his story sounds all too believable. He obviously has the physical scars to back it up as well.  He did exactly the right thing and got the hell out in order to try and get any sort of fair shake in the matter.  With more eyes on the story and it getting world wide attention I am sure all of the truth will eventually get out, but you really can't fake getting stabbed and smashed over the head with bottles.  Well hopefully he gave as good as he got and some of those other people have learned a lesson or two about attacking a lone guy they perceived as an easy victim.

Try reading the article again.  The massage parlor owner Prasert was asserting that previously when the MP Chuwit owned a massage parlor he had made a request to use a temple gate as another entrance....thereby showing Chuwit as being hypocritical.  And just to be accurate, a massage parlor is not a brothel....there's actual massage's that take place.....perhaps even occasionally only massages.  It would be interesting to know if the massage parlor (before it had been forced to close) had been there before the school.   Either way I suppose it's not a good idea to mix the two, but that's just a farang's point of view.

This is nothing to do with cultural quirks.

As the British FCO warns about the dangers of Full Moon parties these warnings should be heeded. But as few people probably check travel advisories it is responsible to include them in a news story.

The Thai authorities are already more than fully aware as they are dealing with the problems first hand.

What are you saying the late Mr. Lister should take responsibility for? It is possible but it is by no means proven that he overindulged. It may be something entirely different.

Indeed. The article says he died the night after the Full Moon Party, and it is not even clear that drugs, or his behaviour or consumption during the party, had anything to do with it. RIP.

Not sure why the Full Moon Party is mentioned in such detail, suggesting that it is the party's fault somehow... Of course, what I heard about it is Sodom and Ghomorra, but nobody is forced to attend or iindulge, it's all voluntary. The dangers are well known. Other people like to put themselves into other dangerous situations, such as attempting to climb Mount Everest, or jumping with their motorbikes over 12 burning cars, or going into a jungle were nobody can protect them from wild animals. Other young people drink 24 hours a day at Ballermann beach of Mallorca. I believe everybody has the right to choose their own dangerous situations.

When reading the article I had a bit of a feeling that the author was seizing this unfortunate death as a means to condemn Thailand somehow by putting the blame on the party.

Exactly...I've been to the full moon party a number of times and indulged in various opportunities and haven't died once.  God bless this poor young soul, but as long as there isn't some hidden foul play I can't see how it can be construed as anything but unfortunate.
