In Topic: Pattaya Hotels - 400 Bht?

Jomtien is nice, but then you have to catch a baht bus everytime you want to get to Pattaya, or hire a scooter.

A place that I have stayed at for 3 weeks in Soi Bukhao which is really great is Target Regency Pattaya: http://www.targetreg...promotions.html

I think I had a deluxe room.  You get a bed, cable tv, good air conditioning, keycard entry, wifi, safe and a clean thai bathroom.  Rooms are cleaned every second day, but towels are available daily.

It is a nice part of Soi Bukhao, you can walk to Central shopping centre in less than 5 minutes, and then walk through there to beach road.

Target manager is friendly, and Target also has a porper massage shop as part of the property, and a small bar which opens on the street.

There is an open air afternoon/night market 30 seconds away, with cheap clothes, nail technicians and at night, cheap food.

If you want even closer to the action, http://www.henryapartmentpattaya.com/ is also 500 a night and probably cheaper by the week.  They are one minute from the walking street sign (and beach), but at night you can't hear any nightlife so it is good.  Entrance is via on alley near the corner of 2nd road and south pattaya road. Decent enough room but some rooms have no sunlight and safety boxes are behind 24 hour reception.

In Topic: 3G Or 2G Big Data Sim For Tourists?

I reread the thread and there is lota of whinging to to summarise: where i got 3g it was good, i did not download over 3 gigabytes and get capped because i had wifi occaisionally at hotels for my torrents.

Oh yeah and the cheap voip calls which true offer are great, i had to go back to the store with passport and sign a seperate form to authorise it on my account, but then i could dial 00600 followed by the aussie landline i wanted and it was only 1 baht a minute, cheaper than skypeout and only a little more expensive than nimbuzzout.  Details on their website.

So 600 a month and then about 3 hours on very reliable voip to home.  No cancellation penalties, as even though i was on a postpaid "contract" i confirmed early on via phone suppprt that the contract has no early termination fees, which was confusing coming from a western country, but it is all good now :)

As an update to my OP, i spent nearly 2 months using the True plan I signed up for in bangkok.  In central Pattaya, central Chiang Mai and bangkok the 3g performed great.

The 2g when i was in a place not covered like Sukhotai, Koh Chang was noticably slower than the 2g sim I had on my last trip with Dtac.

Day before i left i went to tesco in Pattaya and the true move shop cancelled my postpaid plan for me, i used my drivers license or a passport photocopy but they would prefer passport to cancel.  I got no suprises with the bill, to finish off my plan I paid 850 baht in person.  In two months i got one debit on my credit card for 600 baht.

I had to sign a form and put "moving overseas" as my reason.  All up very easy process if you are in LOS for more than 6 weeks and need cheap 3g in those cities where True has deployed it.

In Topic: Jet Ski Scam

2011-01-11 14:54:09

Was just at police station near Central on beach rd because my idiot GF did not want to wear a helmet.  Told her if we get caught she is paying the fine and she did although now i have an upset GF.

Anyway, while waiting I saw four asian guys discussing with a gang of thais some price thing and thought jetski scam.  Then i recognised one of the thai guys as the short one from the hidden video with the poor indian blokes getting scammed which is floating around the forums.

I signalled one of the guys and found out these four guys crom singapore were indeed getting jetski scammed to the tune of 100k.  They offered 40k and were refused!  I was suprised they made it to the police station, but with the corruption i did not know what to do about the situation.

I informed them they were dealing with criminals, it is a scam/con and that 40k is a shitload of baht for thai people, and that the damage would only cost 2000 baht at most.  Luckily they still had passports did not hand them over, but i did not want to start negotiating for them because i like walkig around pattaya without looking over my shoulder.

They are still there now probably arguing with thais who wont accept 40k.... Ridiculously sad situation for naive nice sinaporean dudes.
