#5296016 Beer In Thailand

You buy a CASE to try it? Is that your nightly quota?

What's wrong with a couple of bottles as a taster?

#5299166 What Do You Do In Your Spare Time?

Posted Rsquared on 2012-05-14 11:34:24

Spare Time??? If you've got plenty, then come on 'round to my farm. I can teach you all sorts of new skills that you have probably never even considered:-

: chopping off dead banana leaves
: clearing said dead banana leaves
: clearing banana trees that have already produced fruit
: clearing weeds from around a variety of fruit trees
: fix or repair broken sprinkler heads

The list could go on and on, and I could also teach you to fix "anything" with bamboo, fencing wire and gaffa tape. Posted Image

#5298763 Copycat Businesses

Posted samran on 2012-05-14 08:29:04

As someone else has already said - this is basic economics.

The ease of entry into a market pushes profits to 'normal' levels.

And that is why your probably see alot of copycat businesses in Thailand for enterprises where the barriers to entry are low, cause that is all a little guy can afford.

If you want excess producer suprluss, get into a business where the barriers to entry are alot higher, or, differentiate your product.

Free market at work. Most of the time, I love it.

I'd drink too if i was stuck in Northeast Thailand

#5287745 Most Women In Isaan Drink: Poll

Posted bannork on 2012-05-10 10:49:36

In my wife's village 80 km north-east of Udon I'd say about 30% of the women frequently drink beer and around 10% are serious lao khao drinkers. Lao khao destroys people, turning them into mental and physical wrecks.
i have to disagree when the article claims Issan society bars women from having an independent role or expressing an opinion.
An Issan woman, middle aged and of sturdy girth, can be heard expressing her opinion to her lazy son or husband from a distance of several hundred metres.

I'm afraid to say that this guy should be allowed to commit suicide. Swastikas for Spastics......Posted Image

Do you know what a spastic is? It is a person, often a very young child with a medical condition caused by spasticity and is also used to refer to people suffering from Cerebral Palsy. The people who suffer from the condition...many many children, have no control of the disease and whilst physically deformed by a cruel twist of fate they are as mentally acute as any of us, if not, more acute, Stephen Hawking being a point in case.

Your comment is far far more offensive than anyone wearing a swastika ear ring and bears testimony to someone displaying minimal intelligence and a bigotry far greater than someone wearing 'fashion jewellery'. You should be absolutely ashamed of yourself, as should the individual who 'liked' your post.

#5266293 How Difficult Is It To Import A Shotgun Into Thailand?

Posted farang000999 on 2012-05-01 21:01:43

Owning a gun is beyond silly. Leave that to the Americans. The only people who should have guns are government employees. The Royal Army of Thailand will guarantee the safety and natural rights of Thai citizens and foriegners residing here and have up until this point in history done a fabolous job. If someone breaks into your home or you feel threathened, I advise you to call the The Royal Thai Police Department. These men are honest professionals who are trained to use guns, but only when absolutely nessecary. They will protect you. Attempting to take matters into your own hands is silly and unnessecary. Please, please, only the government should be allowed to arm itself.

#4266190 Bangkok Siam Square Vendors Fight Chula's Plant Pot Project

Posted geriatrickid on 2011-03-08 09:14:08

Some of you are missing the point. It is private property and it is not a public area. The land belongs to the University, as per the land deeds. How would you feel if  someone  started selling goods  on your front walk blocking your entry and exit. The university is attempting to make the area more liveable and to ensure that there is safe  ingress and egress. Why is it alright for a  group of  profiteers to  squat on someone else's land, especially if the landowner is trying to improve the land?? The merchants  have been given an alternative area but want to sell in the contested area. The merchants have not been stopped form selling their counterfeit and shoddy merchandise, nor has the university demanded  bribes from them.
The Thais who want to make the country a  better place certainly can't win with some of the Thai Visa crowd.

Poor people in BKK have had certain unspoken rights for generations:  The right to open a cheap street stall wherever they choose, the right to build a shack along a klong or railroad track and live for free, etc....  However, the world has not been standing still for the last few generations and Bangkok is now an expensive, global metropolis.  I expect that we will see many more of this sort of conflict in the coming years.

These people have had a free ride for generations, if that free ride is taken away, they simply won't be able to compete with Thailand's growing middle class.

Isn't it obvious why a person who chooses an online name 'thequietman' can't get friends?

No more obvious than yours,so can we say you have problems getting a washing machine?Posted Image

And he likes Italian wash machines. BUT, seems he is impressed by them. I had one Posted Image Posted Image

This sounds real namby pamby psycho-babble stuff but this is the reality............

If you are not happy within yourself, if you don't like who you are.............then it doesn't matter where you go, you will never find Utopia. Utopia is within.

Utopia is picking up your baby son or daughter, giving them a kiss and cuddle, telling them a story and seeing the absolute trust in their eyes. Utopia is taking your older child out playing football, or reading them a book, and seeing the absolute love in their eyes.

Utopia is spending time with your wife just knowing that she loves you, you can feel it every minute every day of your life, Utopia is sitting watching TV sharing a bowl of crisps while your wife cuddles in.

Utopia is going out for a pint with your Dad, or having a cracking blether with your Mum, Utopia is walking in to see your brothers or sisters and seeing a big smile on their face.

Utopia is going to a football match with your pals and watching your team doing the big rivals, Utopia is being in the pub afterwards and your pals rippin the p*ss out of you for some mistake you made 20 years ago.

Utopia is jumping on your Enduro bike and running through the dense forest with your Thai pals, then pulling over and they pull out a picnic. Utopia is sitting on your patio, or in a restaurant in Thailand watching the sun go down, whiloe watching your new family laugh and joke with each other.

Utopia is grabbing a camera and going for a walk and catching outstanding images around just about every corner, Utopia is coming on TV and getting a great laugh at the antics of some of the members.

Don't bother searching for Utopia, it's inside you. All you have to do is realize that being happy within yourself and appreciating what you have  is the road to discovering Utopia.

To me, Thailand has plenty of Utopian moments, plenty times when I have stood back and said Wow, and many of these times are by just sitting watching these relatively poor people show us the richness of their family lives.

Utopia is within, give yourself a chance to find it.

You simply can't be friend with thai people.it is not a question of language skills, their life is so shallow that friendship has no meaning to them. They tend to do everything in groups, but there is no friendship, only a meaningless togetherness in daily activities. This is obviously contagious for foreigners, living a life where depression, alcoholism and sexdependency tend to surrogate this lack of genuine communication.
You live in Thailand for the ease of life, the comfort, the relaxed atmosphere, NOT for friendship of genuine communication.it is the price you have to pay for living here.

Balderdash.
I would have used the words ''Total Crap'' (I'm a commoner). Posted Image

#5253746 Why Is It So Difficult To Find A Good Friend In Thailand

Posted bendix on 2012-04-27 11:18:53

I dont know what people expect.  They voluntarily leave their lives and families to come to live in a country where they will necessarily be isolated, where learning enough of the local language to have meaningful conversations is beyond 99% of us, and where a pool of 'friend' candidates is obviously limited and then complain that it's hard to find friends.

Then - to compound matters - you live in Phrae!

Seriously, it's like deciding to go and live in Dubai and complaining that it never snows.
