I had my daughter (c-section) at Bumrungrad in Bangkok and it by far exceeded my expectations about what it would like to have a baby in Thailand.  I know that many of my family in Australia were shocked and worried (the ones that haven't visited still have preconceived ideas that this is a third world country) but even my mother was impressed with the how everything was dealt with when she arrived for the birth.  My mother even went so far as to say that if I were to have another child, that I should definitely have it here in Thailand again (only at the Bumrungrad :o as the service and care was much higher than many of the top private hospitals back in Australia.

I can't say enough good things about the Bumrungrad, my doctor and nursing staff - and this was not only during and after my pregnancy, but the year before while we were trying to get pregnant in the first place.  Our doctor (Fertility Specialist/Gynecologist/Obstetrician) was educated and trained both in Thailand and overseas, spoke fluent english to both my husband and myself - so there were never any issues with language there.

All I can say is, there is no need to worried about birthing in Thailand if you have a doctor and hospital that you are happy and comfortable with  :D

In Topic: Television Is Killing Cinema - Thai Drivers Are Killing Themselves

2010-07-16 10:18:11

What sort of article is this? If the writer hasnt noticed; Cinema and Television co-exist in unison and have been doing so since the early 50's. Thats a good 60 years! If TV hasnt destroyed cinema yet....it never will! Even with pirated DVD's flooding the market, cinema will still hold its ground. As long as ticket sales are reasonable, people will always go see motion pictures on the big screen, its the experience. And how do bad drivers come into it?...strange segue. What i would really like to see is a World class Thai film made without the clown whistles and boing spring sample effects, quite over that one.

Same thing happened to me but with a Western woman....police told me they couldn't help and various lawyers quoted me around 20K US to resolve the issue....i haven't seen my little girl in over 2 years now. I hope for your sake mate you can get your son back. Its going to take a lot of money and a great deal of heartache.

In Topic: Over 3,000 Thais Commit Suicide Each Year

2010-07-06 01:58:36

A higher rate, per capita, of suicide exists in Australia with an estimated 2000 people killing themselves each year, with 1 third of the total population of Thailand. A lot of these suicides occur due to family breakdown and the flawed justice system being more lenient towards the female taking custody the children. Another interesting statistic is that unknowingly 1 in 4 Australian men arent even the biological Father to their child(ren)!! Now...whats wrong with this picture?
