#5343923 It Might Have Been Much Simpler Before: Thai Opinion

Posted Moruya on Today, 07:00

When the reds finally see that Thaksin loves Thaksin and only Thaksin they will realise that they were just pawns to be sacrificed. Bitches to be slapped.

What they do next will shape Thailand's political scene for years to come.

#5344315 Transgender Thai Politician Vows To Fight For Rights Of All

"...a PhD candidate in social science at Ramkhamhaeng University..."
Beautiful, focused, successful and very smart too.
Good to get someone like this in government,
rather than the 3rd string children and idiot brothers
all warming seats for banned relatives in so many regional and national seats.
Brava, nee bravo! = just plain BRAVE!

#5344086 Worried About The Image? Then Solve The Problem: Thai Editorial

Posted Yunla on Today, 08:19

Counterfeit problem is regional & not Thai-specific. Problem also lies with the Western corporations using Eastern sweatshops for decades to manufacture their non-counterfeit goods, a lot of people in this region learned how to make things in sweatshops & set up their own copy businesses as a way out of poverty. If the corporations had paid them properly to make the genuine items in the first place, there would not be so many counterfeiters now (imo). It works both ways of course - most of these fake watches & bags are made in sweatshop conditions too.
Some counterfeit goods are actually very well-made. I got  a real leather purse in Laos a few years ago which is really good quality leatherwork, its just the logo-stamp is fake. I would never buy a watch though because really you want precision engineering in watches.
For me Thailand is a beautiful country with a rich & colourful culture & history, and friendly people, those are the reasons I love Thailand & I don't see why counterfeit  bags or watches changes any of those positive things.

#5342982 Thaksin's Son Praises Sonthi For 'Unlocking Nation'

The emotions of fear, jealousy and bitterness are discernible in this thread. Why are comments unrelated to the specifics of  the man's comments posted? Character assassination is the m.o. of the  bitter brigade, once again. Snide comments made about education, coming fr om people with limited education. Fascinating insight.

Right ON. We should listen to the man's comments and ignore what we know about him. The fact that he has perjured himself, is a recreational illegal drug user, cheats in his exams, and lives in the lap of luxury due to his father's ill-gotten gains, shouldn't sway us at all because he is a Shinawatra hi-so and money can cure anything.

Thats another nice hugging-people  photo from Thaksin.

It says, "I'm all about embracing people, reconciling differences, thats me, you bet. I don't just hug cambodian massmurderers, I hug my son, I will hug you, I will hug the whole of Thailand especially people who opposed me before, soon I will give them all a great big cuddly hug. Thailands gonna be the Hub of Hugs when I get home!"

The moral of the story: To do bad, illegal and unethical things in Thailand is fine. To talk about bad, illegal and unethical things being done here, is NOT! What's wrong with this picture?

This sounds like the story of the girl on the toll way.....all the same bull about minors and underage, and therefore not being responsible, Look for god sake DO the kid , starters anyway you can and give him a jolt. Secondly do the car owner for letting him have keys, no matter who. Because no insurance would be valid then do the owner -to pay out ALL expences-doctors-damage etc. Police should bring them to justice-and hold if necessary until a court decision.

Yingluk wants to reduce corruption - well here's a start. Remove from the police the right to make extra-judicial financial settlements to criminal cases. Of course, she may have to increase their pay as commissions on these are a major source of their income.

#5341165 Sonthi Lobs Explosive Bill Into House

Quote

Of the two issues, the amnesty for Thaksin is likely to have a tangible impact - it could either end or widen the political divide
It can not end divisions, only exacerbate the divisions already existing. The notion of any kind of closure through this bill is an offense to any logical being. Words like 'reconciliation' and 'rehabilitation' have been saturating the Yingluck speech-writers for months, these are both incorrect words for this political process. These two words are also used in psychotherapy for processes of  healing trauma wounds, which ultimately rests on the patient being given sanctuary and distance from the abuser & a sense of closure regarding  the crimes committed. Without closure there can be no healing, and closure is not possible without the abuser facing legal justice & appropriate punishment. Justice is the first step of recovery for the victims in all cases, and without it there can be no reconciling or rehabilitating the people involved.
In reality this is just an act of narcissistic totalitarianism, leaders devising laws that make them immune to the law & absolve them of their former grand-scale crimes. A controlling father  treating the electorate as infants, dangling bright shiny toys into the carrycot & shushing the baby with don't worry  father knows best, he's making these laws for you. Look at shiny toy. Wooo.

This is just hilarious. Every single main road of every single tourist destination is full of copies that being a watch or a polo-shirt.

Is there anywhere in Thailand where you can purchase original products?

There are a few places but I don't think many are sold due to their high price....a high price caused by the high import/luxury tax placed on them by the Thai govt.  So, fake ones are sold instead.

#5339633 Natthawut To Submit Red-Shirt Version Of Reconciliation Bill

It is disconcerting to see the one-eyed logic being applied to the reconciliation bill.
Section 2 of the bill demands that the decisions of the court, set up by the coup makers, be put to one side and that the cases be referred to a fresh judicial process.
This has been interpreted as a means of providing Thaksin Shinawatra with an amnesty, which it does not. It means that the same evidence can now be put again to an independent court for decision.
The argument against this by Thaksin-haters is that the case would be subject to social and political pressure.
Let me get this right: A law enacted by a democratically elected government, insisting that a case is heard by an independent judiciary, is unsafe; however, a decision taken by a court, set up by an illegal coup, whose only role was to indict one person, is considered to be defenceable.
It takes a particularly twisted, one-eyed logic to make such an argument.
There may or may not be flaws in the bill. However, like all other government business, it is viewed through anti-Thaksin eyes, so it will not be properly scrutinised.
Very well said, Mike from Pattaya

You ignore the fact that since this government has been in power several high profile cases have been dismissed before reaching the courts - cases that seem fairly well proven by public evidence. The DSI has also dropped all investigation into the red shirt leaders actions during their failed coup attempt.
If there was ANY guarantee that the cases would proceed to court you might have some semblance of argument, despite the huge logic flaw that the laws broken were long standing and not enacted in the recent past. The morally malleable and politically persuadable Tarit could look into a small room with a gorilla in it and see nothing worth investigating.
Also you are forgetting the party line - this is not just to clear Thaksin. Other murderers are involved as well.
Red shirts don't want an amnesty, PAD don't want an amnesty, so who does? The man with the most to lose if the truth emerges.

THAKSIN SHINAWATRA is ultimately responsible they would not have been there had he not organized it in the 1st place and then at the last minute dismissed a deal that would have seen the demonstraters leave peacefully.
