Want to teach in Thailand? You will need a work permit for the purpose of teaching. This is the criteria:
• Valid passport with Non-Immigrant “B” or (“O” if its not obtained based on retirement.) It can be a multiple or single entry.
• Education Certificate that is valid
• Criminal Clearance Certificate
• Official Letter of Appointment from education establishment
• Any other documents which the education establishment may require
Teacher Requirements in Thailand:
1 – A certified copy of at least a bachelor degree, which must be presented to the local Ministry of Education, which must check the authenticity of the teacher's credentials by seeking a confirmation letter from the university the applicant, claims to be a graduate of.
2 – The applicant must possess a passport with a non-immigrant B visa or “O” visa if not based on retirement. The visa must be valid at least before the date of application.
3 – The name of the teacher must match that on his/her passport and academic degree.
4 – Teachers from countries where English is not an official language must present evidence of English-language fluency, in the form of a standardized test results with the following minimum scores: IELTS 5.5, or TOEFL 550 or TOEIC 600

Required criteria for a non-immigrant visa applying for a teaching position at a:

Thai International School
1. An official letter from the head of the department concerned requesting for a Visa for the applicant
2. A letter of employment
3. Employment contract
4. Diploma and resume of the applicant
5. Teacher license
6. Current Teaching position license
7. The school's registration papers and the administrator's letter of appointment / license
8. Application for work permit in accordance Section 8 (wp.2)
9. Photocopy of Passport
Thai Government School
1. An official letter from the head of the department concerned requesting for a Visa for the applicant
2. A letter of employment
3. Application for work permit in accordance to Section 8 (wp.2)
4. Photocopy of Passport
Thai Private School
1. An official letter from the head of the department concerned requesting for a Visa for the applicant
2. A letter of employment
3. Employment contract
4. Diploma and resume of the applicant
5. Teacher license
6. Current Teaching position license
7. The school's registration papers
8. School administrator or principal's license
9. Application for work permit in accordance to section 8 (wp.2)
10. Passport photocopy
Please be aware: Regulations have changed in the last several years (Ministry of Education) requiring all foreign teachers to have at least a bachelor degree and to pass an extensive background check.
Please note: Foreigners working in Thailand are governed by the Labour Protection laws. However, there are exceptions for certain occupations, such as principles and teachers in private schools or housemaids (Ministerial Regulation (B.E.2541), Business not under enforcement of the Labour Protection Act. B.E.2541, dated 19 August 2541).
