Footage has emerged of what led up to the incident in a South Pattaya school parking lot when an Australian pensioner was floored by a Thai gold shop owner.

The footage - seemingly from a dash cam - shows the Australian, now known as Gerard Collins, go to retrieve a knife from the rear of his car. The footage was on Facebook on the Pattaya Eastern News page

He then uses the weapon to smash the Honda Brio of the Thai man who said there had been a minor coming together earlier.

Then the Australian runs down the Thai man who is standing in front of his vehicle catapulting him into the air.

The Thai man aims a kick at the Australian's Nissan before getting back in his own car to begin a chase.

The grainy footage makes it unclear as to whether the Australian was threatened first as he claimed later.

The chase ended up at Aksorn Suksa School where Sumeth Rungratanaphan, 28, was later filmed knocking 72 year old Gerard Collins to the ground with a single punch in full view of police, teachers and students. (story here).

The Australian had gone to pick up his eight year old daughter from school.

Police are investigating.
