Getting from Phu Kradueng to Vientiane, Laos

Recommended Posts

What options are there to get from Phu Kradueng to Vientiane, Laos? Bus to Udon thani or Khon Kaen? Minivans? Any direct transportation from Phu Kradueng to Nong Khai?

"Central Thailand" forum is not a good choice for this question.

I'll ask mods to move to Isaan forum for local knowledge.

The obvious route on the road (withouth having checked the buses):

Going north on road #201 (direction to Loei).

At Wang Saphung changing to #210 towards Nong Bua Lamphu and on to Udon Thani and then north on #2 to Nong Khai (tons of buses).

Going via Khon Kaen would be a useless detour.

A smaller detour that is 100% doable (as I live on the route):

use a bus going south to Chum Phae and there changing to a bus to Udon (via #228, #210) and then on to Nong Khai.

I'll try find more details about the direct buses (if no one else can jump in).

Khon Kaen: the only attraction would be this Thai/Laos bus going up until Vientiane. But really too big of a detour.

I still haven't found the magic method for finding bus routes in Thailand.

BUT for sure: there should be plenty of buses to Wang Saphung (direction to Loei).

And from Wang Saphung there are direct buses to Udon Thani (via Nong Bua Lamphu).

This worked out quite well. The only snag was that the songtaew from Phu Kradueng dropped us off at some bus stop that wasn't along the main highway, so we had to wait quite a while for the next bus towards Wang Saphung. It would have been better to get dropped at the restaurant/bus stop along the main road which seems to be the main hub for Phu Kradueng hikers.

Thanks for the feedback.

So in the end you made it up to Vientiane?

The low response surprised me, but currently the forum is somewhat quiet and the Isaan/Travel forum even more.
