Agent to get Motorbike Tax Decal

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend an agent to get a tax decal for a motorbike here in Chiang Mai?  I used one last year, but that contact is now gone.  Bike is three years old and thus does not require inspection.

Can't hurt to use an agent, but it was painless and quick last time I did it at the Land Transport Office.  That was a few years ago though.  Is it still over by the Holiday Inn?

Last time I tried to do it was very very long wait.  I had to leave.  Place was packed.  Yes, by HI.  Last year.

I think you were just unlucky.  I've re-taxed cars and bikes there and never waited more than about 10 or 15 minutes.

Maybe you're right.  I never had any trouble until last year.

Just look for and shop that has the blue & gold gear sign... they look like service station... They usually only charge an extra 100 baht and do the emission test without and waiting they also handle all the insurance  paperwork.  You just come back in a day or two and collect the license sticker... Much easier than trying to navigate the land office when you don’t understand the language...

Really almost nothing to navigate.  Nothing to say at the office so you do not need to speak Thai.  Just hand them the papers and the money then wait for papers and change to be returned.  Very very easy.  Rarely a long queue at the one across from the Holiday Inn.

Only reason to have someone do it for you is if the trip is too inconvenient.

At the Land Office don't they require you to prove insurance... How and where is that done?... Is there an emissions test that you might have to queue up for?... Do they give you your sticker right there on the spot or do you need to return another day?

When you buy your insurance you get a paper which you just take to the Transport office (nothing to do with the Land office).  There they will take part of that paper which is proof of insurance and return the rest.  Emissions and safety tests if required are done at the shops with the sign seen in the photo you posted, then they give you a paper which you take to the transport office.  You get your sticker on the spot, no need to return the next day.

So 1.  Insurance paper  2. Inspection paper for older vehicles and 3. Registration book plus of course cash.  1&2 you can get at the same place.

So your DIY is not quite as simple as handing them the papers... :coffee1:

On Sripoom there's an insurance agency that does it. About 80-100 meters after you make the turn at the NE corner of the moat. they have a BUPA sign out front. There's also the emission inspection place between the NE corner of the moat and Tesco Lotus. On the left just past the first light on the way to Tesco, look for a round blue sign.

from my experience the one near the holiday inn,i have got it sorted the lot within  30 mins.that is waiting sometimes for the test at 60 baht.then the rest follows easy.not a long wait and after or before tesco for a drink and something like a baht shop to browse nearby.
