Five children were injured in Ban Chang, Rayong, yesterday on their way home from the first day of the new term.

Their minivan was collided into by a pick-up at a bend on the road behind the Thor Thai Thanu market.

School van driver Ms Nutcharin Petchphrom, 46, had to be cut free in a ten minute operation.

Two children were slightly injured and taken home. Three aged 16,16 and 13 were taken to hospital then allowed home.

They were students at Mathayom Thaksin school in Rayong.

Witnesses said they saw the pick-up weaving about on the road.

Driver Annop Chottakham, 36, was arrested by police and tested at the station for alcohol.

Thai Rath did not report the results of the test.

We have 4 kids that go to school, the journey is 25km as we are in the north-east, not a chance in hell that I would allow them to get into a mini van, bus or car with a Thai. Wife does the morning drop off and I do the afternoon pick up.

Insurance is also a major factor if in an accident, the insurance these guys have if any is limited, whereby ours covers our kids up to a million baht per head.

I'm also in the North east of Thailand. Rayong is about 600km from here. Am I misunderstanding something from your post?

Are you confusing my post with another, we were on holidays in Pattaya about a week ago, visiting Rayong twice ?
