"Wonderful" Thai police instrumental in returning 300,000 baht left in a taxi to grateful student

In a variation on the honesty of Thai people story the much maligned Thai police came in for a health dose of praise today.

The quick actions of the officers at the downtown Suthisan station enabled the return of ten million won (or 300,000 baht) that a university student left in the back of a cab.

The cabby has also been praised for his role.

Twenty three year old Pinchaya "Am" Phromrat, a student at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce in Din Daeng, had traveled in the Altis taxi of Wanchai "Khiat" Tocharoen, 51, from Huay Khwang market to the UTCC.

After doing some errands she went to Asoke to change the money and realized she had left it in the back of Khiat's cab.

She reported the matter to the police at Suthisan and their speedy efforts in tracking down the driver of the cab meant that within an hour it was all smiles at the police station.

Khiat said he had no idea the large wodge of Korean currency was there until the cops radioed him.

Am praised the wonderful Thai police for their speedy efforts to reunite her with her money.

Thai Rath reported that the police themselves gave the cabby an undisclosed sum and a certificate for his honesty.

Well the schools must be better here, why not send them to Singapore, like some Thai hi so's do

It's not unusual to them carry large amounts

Come across several Border Force shows that see a lot of this

Why would a student have Baht 300,000 and why would she be carrying it with her? Could be a good reason but the article is not clear on that

"enabled the return of ten million won......... large wodge of Korean currency "

Spending money for her holiday?

Wow Thailand must be such an honest place more than any where in the world based on how many honest taxi drivers there are in these articles and the articles must improve tourism figures. I have rarely if ever seen stories like this in any other country. Thailand is a hub for people losing their money and having it returned.

You have to have your head seriously

wedged up your Khyber to get into a cab with that kind of cash then forget about it when you get out.

People can relax in Thailand as they get rest assured if they did forget money or valuables with the honesty of taxi drivers they would get in contact one way or another probably before they even knew they lost the money and have the money returned in front of the press also. What a honest country.
