When ACTUALLY is Loy Khratong day this year?

Recommended Posts

Searching for Loy Khratong day this year, I find two results --- 22nd or 23rd of November.

Now, I always thought that it fell on the night of the full moon which is the 23rd. So why do some sites quote the 22nd.

Thanks Charlie.  What made me think 23rd is that 23rd is the full moon day. In the meantime I'd asked a bar in Chiang Mai and they replied that it is a 3 day celebration with the 'big day'on the Friday.

My local bar in Bangkok thinks, like your wife, it is the Thursday.

Buddhist calendar for November 2561 (2018).

22nd is labeled as Loy Krathong.

Nov 1, 7, 15, 22 and 30 being "wan phra", the days when the monks don't go out for the alms but people go the temples to donate. Somewhat comparable to "Sunday" for Christians.

Yeah....both dates can be honoured.

As the celebratory and ceremonial [particular evenings] practices might vary from one locale to the other.

Usually, a three-day consideration.

It's all good.

One of the most picturesque festivals in Bangkok is the evening of Loy Krathong, when people gather around lakes, rivers and canals to pay respects to the goddess of water by releasing beautiful lotus shaped rafts, decorated with candles, incense and flowers onto the water.

Pffff, they sell food...the kids put the kratong made of bread in the water, light the candle and go play with fireworks which they will throw among other people..better wear old clothes or they will even touch you with burning stuff.

After that they eat something and go home...

If it's windy the candles burn like 10 seconds...and the fish will eat the bread in no time.
