PRD officials meet EC on disseminating information about election laws

BANGKOK, 07 December 2018, (NNT) - Officials of the Public Relations Department (PRD) have met with the Election Commission (EC) to discuss the dissemination of information about election laws to the public./// 

Attending the meeting were Acting Director-General of the PRD, Lt. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd , the executives of the department’s television and radio divisions and EC Secretary-General Pol Col Jarungwit Phumma . They discussed guidelines to publicizing electoral laws to educate the public about the upcoming general election. 

The PRD will provide PR related support to the EC through its various channels. The meeting also talked about several PR strategies for informing the public about their electoral rights. 

Meanwhile, Pol Col Jarungwit reiterated the importance of informing the public of their rights along with the electoral laws. He also spoke about providing a public relations platform for political parties to campaign, while informing their understanding of the new voting system and campaigning regulations. The EC Secretary-General said his agency would utilize its own PR division to achieve the goals via traditional broadcasting and social media. 

According to Pol Col Jarungwit, the EC expects 80% voter turnout and no more than 2% spoiled ballots.

It will be interesting to hear what they have to say and if the Thai public will be able to cut through the smoke and fog to determine if they are being restricted in a way detrimental to what would be construed as fair in an electoral process. It is likely the public will be given just enough freedom in the process to feel they have been able to select their leadership while other factors impact the results.
